Hello Everyone

It's great weather in the UK for the next few days and we are well aware that it isn't suitable for everyone - so here's a link to some good advice:

Feeling the heat? Here are some tips to help you stay cool

If you can add to the tips, please feel free to do so.

Best wishes

  • We've been out most of the day, nice in car with aircon on full.

On returning home late afternoon it felt relatively cool in the house (it's well insulated) so keep windows closed so as not to let the hot air in. Will open them later as it cools outside.

Currently sitting in the lounge with curtains drawn and fan on thinking about a cold beer or two - I know not always recommended but........

  • On the bright side, no doubt normal summer weather with wind, rain & cooler temperatures is just around the corner along with the first long range forecast for a white Christmas Snowman2

  • Hi  Luckily I am up in Scotland (and not the Midlands!) so you all have my sympathy, we had a high of 22 today!!!

I am so glad to be up here and not having my hot flushes down south!!

The “downside “ is that the long long days are messing with our sleep patterns- we are getting about five hours of darkness - it was light when I got up for a wee at 3 am the other night!

    best wishes to all sufferers

  • Hello Everyone

As it's going to be rather warm for the next few days (even in the grim North West) I though I would "bump" this old thread back to the top of the page.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks Millibob

Just had another look over the info and it is so useful.  I have always found that putting my wrists under cold water a good solution- there is a good blood supply at the wrist and thus you can cool down quickly.

And it is definitely Factor 50 all the way!!!

    All the best

  • I will reiterate what I said on another thread as one who experiences moderate hot flushes whatever the weather.

Use a hand held  mister fan costing around £15 to £20 .There are also collar fans available nowadays.

Cast aside the duvet and use a cotton sheet.

I was out bowling yesterday and it was still and hot.I played with a cold water soaked tea towel worn as a scarf.Sweat still pore down my face.

Have luke  warm refreshing showers .

    Plenty of factor 50;if outside.

    Don’t overdo it.

Enjoy the weather. Its still better than ice, snow and days of rain.

  • My best workaround has been to take the actual duvet out of the cover & just use the sheet.  It also helped last night when the hosepipe burst & showered me in lovely cool water, but that's not something I am suggesting we all do as it gets expensive having to buy a replacement.

Strangely enough the head of SW ambulances has advised that some of their call outs have been to older people who still have their heating on, wearing cardigans & not drinking enough fluids .  Very weird I know, but a timely reminder to check up on elderly relatives, friends & neighbours who might need a hand with shopping etc.

Best Wishes & keep cool everyone & remember, winters on it's way.
