Something pleasant.

Yesterday, my better half and I travelled to Battersea Park in London to support my daughter (the mobile one, not the disabled one) on Prostate Cancer UK's "March for Men"

She had enrolled herself on the 20k walk. She actually did 22.5 because she got a little bit lost. Even she couldn't say how the heck she did that. So she had to run part of it. Not part of the original plan.

That wasn't the important part of it, though.

There were hundreds of people there. There were all sorts of tents, including the telephone advisers, so a great deal of information.

People of all colours and creeds were there, mixing and just having a good time. There was ice cream that only cost an arm, rather than the traditional arm and leg.

The whole point of this is that people were having a good time.

There was music, with added singing and impromptu dancing. A few people were in tears, many, many more were laughing and hugging.

There were 2.5k, 5k and 10k marches, as well as the big one.

I am going to book in for the 5k next year. It will be my next goal. It's my damaged back, not the PC, that caused me not to take part this time.

In an unruly world, where people are ill, poor, and generally living under pressure, this was just a good thing.

I was impressed and glad.

Oh, and around £600,000 was raised for Prostate Cancer research!

  • Hi mstev2

That you for this - it is so positive!  I missed the event because I was oblivious to it, but now I am aware I will look to next year.

I am aiming for the Tour de 4 in September in Glasgow - I say aiming,I am not much of a good shot!!

All the best, and congratulations to all participants

  • What a great event, and a superb sum of money raised for research.

It's a shame there doesn't appear to be anything similar held here in Yorkshire that I'm aware of.

Made in 1956. Tested to destruction.

  • Brilliant report and a great day for people to come together for a good cause.

Well done to your daughter and everyone else who took part.

    Kind regards - Brian.
