Hi everyone,
I am new here, and posting on behalf of my husband. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer, he's taking Abiraterone, and will have radiotherapy. We have a holiday to Italy booked for dates 08/06/2026 to 22/06/2026. The day after our return home 23/06/2026 his radiotherapy starts. When trying to find holiday insurance we are come up against stumbling blocks mainly because of his forthcoming radiotherapy. Can anyone please advise which insurance companies are the most user friendly for prostate cancer? Thank you in advance for any help od advice you are able to offer.
Hello 22libby,
I'd suggest you try Albert & Eddie, a comparison site owned by the same company that owns Insurancewith and Holiday Safe amongst others. They came up with the goods for me and a few others.
There's also a travel insurance forum on here and you could take a look there, although there's not a lot of activity on it.
I hope you can get sorted, let us know if you can.

Hello 22libby
I would like to echo Derek’s comments above.
I have had travel Insurance all through my personal journey. It’s joint worldwide with my wife who has some issues (medical ones!!).
Before radiotherapy I paid almost £2k a year. Directly after radiotherapy it dropped to £780.
I do hope you get sorted. .
Best wishes - Brian.

I've been exactly in that situation in 2024, I was on Abiraterone and went on a ski trip which ended a day before my radiotherapy. I was able to insure with the post office, I think it was just over 100 for the week including winter sports.
I did have a slight mishap, my flight back on Sunday afternoon was cancelled due to a storm, I ended up taking a flight on Monday morning and going directly from the airport to the hospital for my first radiotherapy, with my ski gear! It all worked well but was very stressful, so if you can leave a day buffer I'd recommend it.
Hope this helps

Thank you so much. I'm pleased to hear you experienced the same situation and found insurance for £100 including winter sports for a duration of one week. It gives me hope. We did use The Post Office insurance about 7 years ago, and were very pleased with them. I'll add their details to my list for tomorrow.

On a different note here's a link to a thread you may find of use before your husband stats his radiotherapy:
What you wish you had known before starting Radiotherapy?
Best wishes - Brian.

I've attempted to apply online for insurance with Albert and Eddie. There's one question I'm unsure how to answer - '
My thinking is I should say yes, as far as I'm aware, prostate cancer cannot be cured.
My husband's prognosis is promising after he receives radiotherapy. The cancer hasn't spread to the bones; it has spread to the lymph nodes on either side of the prostate.
I'm surprised by how cheap the quote I've received is (before answering the above question). It's about £150 for a single trip for two weeks.
Perhaps I should get a telephone quote, as I'm wondering if I haven't filled out the form correctly. Does the quote seem too low in your opinion?

'Have you reached a point where the doctor says you cannot be cured, so treatment is only intended to extend and/or improve the quality of your life?'
This is question for the latter stages, the very end. Many people (like me) have incurable cancer and would answer "no" to this, because people can live 5,10, 15 years and more with incurable cancer.
This is for when the Dr might say there's not long left, or get your affairs in order etc.
