Pretty anxious right now - suspected PC from raised PSA

After a urine test and flow test Friday which seemed ok I’m getting anxious that the consultant didn’t say a lot and I had to push for a second PSA test which he has put in 6 weeks time which I think is excessive waiting. Going a little bit stir crazy not knowing anything to be honest.

Anyone know if this kind of wait is normal?

  • Hi Kevstar and welcome

Do u have the PSA reading that concerns you.

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,

    Many Thanks

    Yes it’s 9.2

I have been speaking to a guy who had no symptoms but had to have a Prostectomy after a raised PSA and tested just on the off chance,

    Regards

    Kevin

  • Hi again

Well not particularly high but you said that u had a urine and flow test, have u have urinary  issues because that can cause a raised PSA

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,

No urinary issues at all no. The PSA level is more than twice the normal level hence my push for a second test.

    regards

    Kevin

  • Ok, so just a normal PSA test then, is this your first, if not what were previous ones.

Yes it is higher than normal so another test makes sense, probably 6 weeks ok but try and push for a nearer one if u want.

If next one is similar then Def  u need a MRI but they should know that.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Yes my first and a bit of a shock tbh.

I read you have a right to a test so I shall be pushing for one asap to reconfirm.

    Many Thanks

  • You could go to your GP and ask , they normally don't refuse.

Even though PSA of 9 is above normal it doesn't necessarily mean it is cancer and even if it was,  potentially easy to treat at that sort of level

    All the best

    Steve

  • Cheers Steve for your help. Im contacting the GP tomorrow to push for it

  • Hello

We have "spoken" before. Thank you for the update.

Another PSA test isn't going to help. Your last one was 9.2. If you have seen a urologist then it's out of your GP's hands.

You need to speak to urology and ask one way or another - why with a PSA of 9.2 am I not on the cancer pathway?

Let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Brian,

We have indeed and thank you.

I might still ask the GP as I know if you have good reason to ask they cannot refuse.
I have already left a voicemail with the consultants secretary on that very question of Cancer Pathway.
