Hi all I'm 3 months into hormone treatment now and feeling shattered and a bit rubbish a lot of the time any tips for this much appreciated.

  • Hello Mace,

Unfortunately this is fairly commmon and individuals suffer side effects to different degrees. Fortunately I haven't suffered quite as much as some others do (until recently when I caught a cold and cough which has knocked me sideways) but for me the main thing I hate is that I just don't feel like me anymore.

There are, however, some things you can do to help, have a read of the following websites for suggestions:

I hope you can get some relief.

  • Hi

my OH’s oncologist advised him to keep up his daily walks as this helps with the fatigue . He is now at the gym 3 times a week for resistance work to keep his manly shape as he calls it . It has certainly helped with the fatigue and his upper body as he had lost all his muscle tone .

    best wishes

  • Hi Mace,

It's fairly common to have some side effects from HT which affect some guys more than others.  Whilst it may seem strange, one of the best ways to deal with fatigue is actually to continue with being active.  I found taking walks / gardening in the fresh air helped, & whilst I did feel tired at times it felt more down to these activities rather than the treatment itself.

I also tried to eat a healthy diet with a few treats thrown in (I'm guilty of enjoying the odd MacDonalds etc) now & again.  Having things to look forward to is a bonus, meeting friends, theatre trip, days out - whatever floats your boat - can be a huge booster to the way you feel.

    Best Wishes

  • My husband finds that doing something active at least once a day helps, even if it is hoovering or gardening, a walk, mowing the grass or cooking .On the odd occasion he doesn't do much he says he feels more tired.i haven't let him loose on the ironing yet!

  • I might have asked ''what's ironing?'', but it's actually something I quite enjoy if it's only a small pile.  Favourite music blaring out certainly does help, but I dread the moment anyone catches my dancing steps behind the board through the window Blush

  • I am saying nothing but I iron my t-shirts over an upturned wok to keep their shape!!
