Accessing records on line

My husband is registered on the NHS app so can see all his GP records. I understand you can also see your hospital record/test results in the same way. Does anyone know how you do this please as we are going round in circles. We asked at the GP and they say the hospital have to do it. We then asked our oncology nurse and she said the GP has to do it. Thank you

  • WW,

    Exactly!!

I gather that the Government is trying to deal with this problem but the big question is…..when will patients see the improvement?

I only get my PSA results from the hospital if they send a letter to my GP.

  • Our hospital group has its own online portal that you can join to access records from any hospitals within the group, available for 3 months.  Have only just discovered it and haven’t tried it yet so don’t know how easy it is.   There’s also something called Patients Know Best which has appeared on the NHS app, that you’re supposed to be able to access records through but so far I’ve had no success.  Wonder if anyone else has had more luck with it?

  • Morning  I haven't heard of the 'Patients know best ' but I've just looked on my NHS app and it is not there.

Will keep an eye out for it.  If I find it first I will let you know.

    Take Care

  • Hi Steve and Chocaholic, I googled    Patients Know Best and found it very easily. It is a platform owned by a private company but there is no charge for users. It seems to run pretty much in the same way as the NHS app with a few extras such as being able to connect wearable health technology for monitoring your health. It is, though, very dependent on your health care providers being signed up to it . So, it seems to me that if, say, your GP is signed up to it and the hospital you are referred to isn’t then there could be a problem in accessing your complete records? ( I’m no tech whizz!)

i think it has possibilities but I also think it is duplicating quite a lot of the NHS app .

I don’t think I’m allowed to paste the link here?

  • Good morning

You can post links to something you have used yourself and wish to recommend it to others, for example a travel insurance company you took out a policy with or the squeezy app if you used it for your pelvic floor exercises.

I did look into "Patients Know Best" and I agree with your findings - it's run in conjunction with the NHS and does the same function - so where's the catch, as it's a commercial product yet free?

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hello Brian, I haven’t used it myself so could not say whether or not it is worthwhile. My own comment would be to ask why the NHS app cannot link with wearables and result shared right across an Integrated Care system and between integrated care systems.

  • Hello

There are 215 NHS Trusts in England - take off the Ambulance trusts and a few others say you have 160 - they all go their own way regarding record keeping.

In the early days of my journey, as I live in a small village (we like to think it is - it's a town) in Greater Manchester I was under 4 trusts for my care. Three used the NHS App and one "My Chart". I had a full set of bloods done at the one using "My Chart" and the results appeared the same day - two days later one other trust wanted a full set of bloods - I downloaded my "My Chart" figures and e-mailed the other trust.

I was admitted to my local hospital and transferred a few days later to a "bigger" one. On arrival they said "oh sugar, Brian's come from xxxxxx - we will have to put all his paper records onto our computer system!!".

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland don't use the NHS App, and Wales has free parking (if you can find a space) in hospital car parks.

There are improvements being planned for the app including pick and chose for your appointments but not linking wearables.

Someone who has "been there  - done that" needs to give the NHS a very big shake.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • Hi Brian, I have a friend who's brother is very big in the world of integrated systems, and has helped set up many for some very well known financial companies, and his firm were asked to look into the feasibility of integrating all parts of the NHS, and came up with an excellent system quite quickly, unfortunately the politicians then added lots of guidelines and restrictions, which made integration impossible,

  • Hi Worriedwife, I’ve had another look at PKB and it seems to be about recording one’s own health details on it and uploading results, documents etc which are accessible on the NHS app, and my SystemOnline account with my surgery.  Don’t think I’ll bother.

  • Hi Choc a holiday, I didn’t think it would be worth my while to replicate the NHS app - especially as it was not a given that my local health services would be signed up to it.
