I had SABR treatment in February 2023.
Before the treatment had even finished prior to Day 4 I had blood in my stool.
This has continued on and off ever since. Seems to be getting slowly worse if I have to strain much.
Have done a FIT Test with the obvious result.
Very nervous about colonoscopy as I fear treatment has damaged the bowel wall
Previous colonoscopies have been painful due to a “loopy” bowel. Don’t know what to do from here.
Hi FensIan , I had my RT over 6 years ago and have had intermittent blood in my stools since. Had colonoscopy and told it was radiation proctitus and diverticulitis. Subsequently had a sigmoidoscopy with same result and added piles to the list, but the consultant told me two things. Firstly, don’t strain and secondly don’t sit too long (even without straining as the piles drop down with a sitting action). If you can’t go then get up and walk around and return if you need to. Since then the occurrence has drastically improved from three or four times a week to once every month or two. You might be able to have the procedure using a drug (can’t recall what it is) that effectively makes you forget what happened in the procedure, just a thought particularly if you have experienced problems with colonoscopies in the past.
