hi , ,,, so today my daughter and i  spoke to my husbands consultant, ( my husband has dementia and has also refused any treatment for his prostrate cancer ) and we were  told that the prostrate cancer has spread to his  bones , shoulder /kidney  and  this part i don’t understand ,,,, he has spinal cord compression , the consultant had a long talk with my daughter and i and  said he would arrange for the Macmillan team to come to see myself and my daughter at my daughters home to discuss palliative care for my husband . I suppose i knew this was going to be what the scan results would show  ,,,but it has still  come as complete shock . My husband is still unaware of his health conditions . And along with the consultant and my family we have agreed to keep it that way . ,,, Im now worried as to how i’m going to cope . Georgina,

  • Hi  Georgina ,

having worked with patients who suffered from Dementia for a long number of years . I totally understand your dilemma, I also feel giving your husband this diagnosis may distress him further. which  in turn you are the one to support him through iand that impacts on you too. Please make a list of questions you want and  your family need to ask when the specialists visit.
Make time for yourself as it’s important you do to ensure your wellbeing is being supported .

huge hugs to you both and your family

  • Hi , I appreciate you taking time to respond , both my daughter and myself are keeping a diary and making notes ready for when we see the Macmillan team, I’m lucky to have good neighbours each side  one is a male nurse and the other is a policeman , and one or the other will sit with Eddie while I go to church on a Sunday morning. Once again I appreciate your response and the  telephone numbers .Best wishes to you both , regards  Gena

  • It’s not a problem Georgina , I am so lucky to have found this site as I am given so much support from wonderful people . So please just fire away and ask questions or just vent . I don’t  know much about what is on offer in England/ Wales as I live in Scotland for dementia support but feel free to PM if there is anything I can help with or just listen.

    best wishes
