Possible idea for an improvement on the thread pages?

Hello

I hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday.

I am still learning a lot about Prostate Cancer & follow all the posts each day to learn from others experiences & different treatment options.  Doing so has helped my understanding and has also made me feel part of this great community which feels like an extended family.

Rather than read the initial post again & then subsequent replies (unless as a refresher of the topic) I scroll to the bottom of the page & then pick the last page number to pick up the latest comments.  I find this especially useful for some of the more active posts which can run to many pages.  Does anyone else do this (or is it just one of my many quirky behaviours) as my idea is that the page numbers also appear at the top of each page as a quicker way of getting to the current responses?

Brian

  • On most of the other forums I visit it's possible to set up "View unread posts" in any thread. That would be an even better solution.

  • I get view unread posts I just click on what on top of forum page sort of lightning flash sign

  • Hello

    Both  and  are correct.

If you are on just "Prostate Cancer Forums" everything you haven't read on each thread is in bold. There is also the option on the right hand side of the page "Turn Reply Notifications On".

For me when I log on - I have my notifications of who has "reacted to a post" and then I have my notifications of "who has replied to a post". After that I just go to "Prostate Cancer Forum" and anything I have missed - new posts in threads I have not responded to or new threads are highlighted in bold.

Flippin Heck Brian - this last update hasn't gone too well - it's easier to read a post - but try to edit a post on your mobile or search for something - if it's not broke don't fix it!!

I agree - I am over 2 years in and still learning about Prostate Cancer, Becoming a "Champion" has involved training about things I never thought of - and it's improved my computer skills.. As for the Community - yes it's an extended family - we are a very diverse set of folk but we do pull together. I do enjoy the Company and although we have "fun" that one bond is there - Cancer - and when someone has issues or just needs to know something - we are there for them.

Again - thanks for your help over the last few months - it's not unnoticed.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • Thanks for the tips everyone , I will see what I can do to master my way around the posts.

As they say, you learn something new every day although I'm sure I have to forget something as well to leave room in my brain for the new information Laughing

  • Buzzers,

my idea is that the page numbers also appear at the top of each page

I totally agree with your idea for the page numbers to appear at the top of the page.

I mostly use my mobile for Macmillan and this would be perfect.

Brian (Millibob) this would be a great help.

  • Hi Brian (Buzzers),

I had exactly the same thoughts when I first started but realised that there is a short cut.

On the PC main page, as Brian (Millibob) has mentioned all unread posts are in bold.  There are then 3 options

    1. Hit the title ‘Possible idea for an improvement on the thread pages’. This takes you to the start of the thread.

    2. Hit the ‘Latest: xx minutes ago’. This takes you to the latest post.

3 Hit the ‘by Stevecam’. Takes you to your profile.

Unless I have misunderstood your question, option 2 does what you want.  Let me know if I have got it wrong.

Agree with you that repeating the pages at the top would be useful.

  • Hi David,  I seem to be missing an option for ''Latest: xx minutes ago'' which is why I originally thought having the page numbers at the top would help

  • Brian (Buzzers) I get it on both my iPhone and iPad. Sounds like a compatibility problem. What device are you using?  David

  • Hi David,

It's a desktop computer - much prefer a large screen (32'') to a phone or tablet screen.
