Had surgery to remove stage 4 prostate cancer 4 years ago and PSA levels rose from 0.07 to 0.6 since surgery.just finished a 6 week course of radiotherapy but PSA levels only dropped by 0.1 , really unsure of what happens next, any advice would be grateful
Hi Bob
Probably too early to tell what's going on but remember with RT it may never go to zero like it's supposed to with surgery.
Assume that they will do 3 or 6 monthly PSA tests and it's when you've had a few tests will it show what's happening.
As long as doesn't start a long upward trend then u should be ok.
So afraid it's a waiting game for at least 6 months to get a good picture.
Yes I know, usual waiting game that we all hate.
But fingers crossed
Best wishes
Steve
Hi Bob
After Radiotherapy there are a few facts to remember about PSA:
* After RT you may experience "PSA Bounce" where an early test shows a slight rise in PSA levels before a fall.
* Following RT your PSA should drop and your lowest or nadir will be 12-18 months after the completion of RT.
* There isn't a problem under normal circumstances unless your PSA rises in 3 consecutive tests or 2 whole points above your nadir.
As Steve said - it's the normal for Prostate Cancer - the waiting game.
I hope the above helps and I wish you well.
Best wishes
Brian.
