So i had bone cancer this was immediately removed and a piece of metal put in result cancer gone. Question Prostrate cancer spotted but nothing done until it suddenly gets worse . Big Question WHY is it not immediately treated or removed ?

  • Hi Mike

Suppose question is,  what were the stats at time of initial diagnosis, what did they say at that time.

    Steve

  • Sorry , just seen your stats, u were an obvious contender for AS , low stats , about the same as me when I went on AS for 4 years,  did they monitor after initial diagnosis in particular, PSA and MRI to detect a spread,

    Steve

  • bloods every 6 months been jan 22 6.44  may 22  6.86  aug 22 9.7   feb 23 8.1 next consultation due aug this year by phone

  • Ok, so just to check , u had bone cancer first,, not bone mets due to PC. when was last Mri?

    Steve

  • bone cancer in the 1990s . Last Mris Feb and sept last year

  • Ok, so in answer to your original question, with your low stats active surveillance would Def be normal and ok.

However because of your previous cancer one could understand your desire to have it sorted.

Try putting this to the specialist if you want treatment  rather than AS.

Just bear in mind that some people can be on AS for many years before treatment necessary, I was on AS for 4 years.

If u stay on AS push for a MRI at least once a year.

  • My brother had low stats but because I had had prostate cancer a few years previously - and it was only just caught in time as had higher stats but luckily treatment has been successful thus far - 7 years later still with undetctable PSA , and our Dad died with prostate cancer not of it at 88 he decided against Active Surveillance and asked for treatment so he had successful brachytherapy  5 years on and he too has undetectable PSA.

B proactive with your care and if you do decide to go with Active Surveillance ensure you have quarterly PSA tests and yearly MRI and/or biopsy.

    All the best
