My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in January 2018. Since then he has had a variety of treatments starting with degaralix, 6 rounds of chemo, moved to prostap 3 and now Xtandi. He has not had a face to face appointment in over a year and his consultant has moved on. He had a phone call from a locum consultant this week who wants him to take Alendronic Acid once weekly. We both felt quite thrown by this considering this doctor has never seen him and my husband is quite anxious about the side effects of this treatment. Your thoughts and experiences would be most welcome, thank you.
Hi. No need to worry. Alendronic Acid is prescribe to counteract the effects of Entzalutamide, which can thin the bones. It is normally taken with twice daily chewable calcium tablets. But you have to read the instructions carefully. Once a week at the same time. Nothing to eat or drink for at least half an hour afterwards, Remain standing, not lying down Absolutely no side effects
