Prostrate Cancer, my husband was diagnosed back in Nov 2019 and started treatment in March 2020. This was Zitega drug, steroid and Hormone therapy. Consultant has stopped Zitega as we knew it would in April this along with steroid. He has been told Hormone therapy will end in November 2022. He did have radiotherapy which damaged his bowel and it bleeds regularly. Haven't got a clue what happens next. He is Stage 4, 9/10 Gleeson score. Any information would be greatly appreciated as I feel we are just being left with no Information forthcoming. Is it his time??

  • Hi, I can't believe that they are going to stop everything.  Which part of the country do you live in?  I'm in Newcastle at the Freeman Hospital.  I couldn't fault them.  I know my Prostate Cancer wasn't as severe as your husband's.

I hope you can both get some clarity on what happens next.

There may be some others in the forum with better advice.

Keep strong for your husband.  I found having my partner with me helped me a lot, even if just to cry on her shoulder now and again.

  • We live in Falkirk, Scotland. I do think it is absurd. It is so unfair, I want to do all I can to make sure he is getting treated fairly.

    Take care of yourself.

  • Hi

Like Steve I'm astonished they are stopping treatment. Your husbands stats were very similar to mine although I had no serious problems with RT or HT. Have you spoken to the nurses on this site? I'm sure they will be able to help.

    Trying to get fit again!
  • Hi

I had the same, radiation prostitis, after a colonoscopy for some reason it cured the problem, plus if I remember rightly, they can treat the problem, I would ask your doctor about getting one.

Did they give a reason why their stopping the treatment ? If their leaving you in the dark, phone your specialist nurse barring this give McMillan nurses a call see if they have the right answer your looking for. I have the same scores as your husband ( check my profile ) and still ticking over, I know we’re all different, but I always ask for what’s plan B if what I’m taking stops working, be it chemotherapy again or a trial or something else.

    Stay safe

  • Hi Joe,

The mention of that word Colonoscopy...  Finally got my appointment for mine on 22nd August.  This will be my 4th or 5th one.  Colon Cancer is rife on my father's side (he survived it but a lot of his family going back a few generations didn't).

Every 3 years I have to have one, but this time is different.  It should have been last November but I was getting my Radiotherapy for the Prostate Cancer then.  In February when I was told that I was in Biochemical Remission the Oncologist told me that I was able to have the Colonoscopy.  Of course the queue was longer so it will be 9 months late.  Just hope that the 9 months don't mean...  I won't say it!

Being in a better place mentally now will help me a lot but I am starting to get anxious now.

I don't want to look into Bowel Cancer (look I said it!), unless I am diagnosed.

What a difference a year makes.  This time last year I was sweating on my Bone Scan results (luckily they came back clear).

I'm nearly finished my 5th diary now, the best thing is I read through the corresponding day last year to see how I was coping.  I'm so glad that I kept up-to-date with the diaries.

I can still waffle on and on and on.

Keep well Joe, enough about me, how are things with you?

  • Hi stevecam

Lets just hope everything comes back A ok from the colonoscopy, I’m doing as well as I can, a heck of a lot slower and fatigued, but that’s the name of the game.
Coming up to six years now, with my scores surprised to get this far, my PSA is climbing slowly up tp 7.8 now, my team seem happy enough as all my bloods are good except my sugar as I’m diabetic.
I started a diary while I was being treated and for a few months later. Then while watching my favourite tv series on dvd box set, of which I have a fair few, I got the idea to write my own book, so I did a short story, a completed vampire story with a difference, plus my favourite a trio of books about two spies who meet under unusual circumstances and have some great adventures. Not had any printed their just for fun, got six others on the go when I get round to them.

    Stay safe

  • Joe, I am so jealous of your books.

Don't know if I could..... You never know!
