I had robot assisted radical prostatectomy 5 months ago. I’ve made a good recovery in all respects apart from not being able to get an erection. I was prescribed Viagra which didn’t work, then Cialis which seems to improve blood flow but hasn’t yet produced sufficient firmness for intercourse. I had my first consultation at an ED clinic last week and a vacuum pump was recommended. I’d be grateful to hear any opinions, advice or experience about the use of a pump.
Hi,
I've tried tablets, a pump and many injections of varying strength (I'm at 20mcg of viridal currently) and none on their own have provided the assistance needed to achieve intercourse. When used in conjunction with one another we can usually "make do". Tablet and pump or injection and pump does the trick. I am still reassured that hopefully things will improve naturally but I'm 47 and am struggling mentally at the prospect of waiting up to 2 years(I'm 8 months post op now) for natural erections to "maybe" return?? I am still very scared of atrophy. Is there anyone further along than me who has any good news?
Regards Dan
Hi Melvin,
I am now 3yrs post RALP.
Nothing worked for me really post op including meds, injections or pump. In combination I got some results but no consistency.
I had a penile implant fitted 10 months ago this feels and works much better. It's given me more confidence generally and I'd recommend anyone suffering from chronic ED to "go for it!" If their circumstances allow.
Best regards Dan
