PSA on the rise

Compared to some of the chats I read this may seem trivial, I had my prostate removed in April last year, I have T3B, the first two PSA tests showed the PSA to be least than 0.01. The last one taken today, nine months after the operation showed 0.02, not totally unexpected but not something I wanted to hear. Is anybody else in the same boat. At what PSA value could I expect further treatment? I realise initially it's probably the rate of increase that will be monitored. After the operation, the findings gave me a Gleeson score of 3-4. Hope somebody out there can give me a feeling of what could happen next.

  • Hi

I can only speak from my experience, however, my hospital don't want to hear from me unless my PSA hits 2.0 or more.

Also in my area ( Bournemouth) they can't measure down to 0.01 or even 0.02 so your reading changes could just be down to different machines sensitivities. For me,  anything less than 0.03, is undetectable

If it keeps going up have a chat with your Cancer Nurse Specialist who I'm sure will ease your mind.

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi,

To be on the safe side, I'd consult your GP.

There may well be no cause for concern, but either way, your GP can advise on what level would be a concern, which would set your mind at rest.

If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.

Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.

  • It's a bit different for Jan52021 - he has had surgery, while you and I had RT.

  • Jan52021,

At my last post surgery consultation I was told my PSA would fluctuate slightly but that it wasn’t anything to be concerned about. My first was 0.04, the second 0.03.

0.02 is still clinically undetectable and nothing to be too concerned about, but I’m sure your surgeon will be happy to put your mind at rest.

  • Thank you for your reply, I have calmed down a little since my test, from Panic down to concerned. I did see a doctor today but he was filling in for my GP who is self-isolating, so it was a bit of a waste of time. I will wait until my next test in March and see what the result is.
