Hi I am also new here.  My lovely Dad was diagnosed earlier this year with prostate cancer that had unfortunately spread to his bones. It took a long time to find and Covid made it more difficult.  He has had chemotherapy and radiotherapy,  was on steroids and has monthly injections into his prostate.  He has since developed bad lower back pain and has terrible swollen legs. He is under the oncologist but not due an appointment until end of November.  I am really scared. Any help welcome.  Xx

  • It would be worth contacting the oncology team and explaining the symptoms, they may then pull the appointment  forward.

Wishing you and your dad all the best

  • Hi

Sorry for what your dads going through, he should have a specialist nurse he’s able to phone, if there has been any new developments, barring this the doctor may have an answer, either way they need to be given a call just for peace of mind.

If you cannot get an answer, just be a polite pest, and keep phoning till someone can help, as long as your not abusive you should be OK.

    Stay safe

  • Hi thanks.  At the moment my Dad only has the oncologist specialist and the GP is not very helpful.  How does he get a specialist nurse? Thanks

  • Hi

Usually one is appointed to take the pressure off the oncologist, another thing you can try is phoning McMillan nurses and explain your dads problem, there excellent and the problems your having trying to get some help, the number is on this site.

My urology dept is closed Saturday/Sunday so if you cannot get through to the nurses then keep phoning the dept tomorrow.

    Stay safe

  • Phone the hospital and ask to speak to the oncologist's secretary - explain the situation and ask if she can get the consultant to speak to you or get an appointment to see him.  He should have had a specialist key worker or nurse appointed who he can contact but if not ask about that as well when you get to speak to some one.

Failing all of this then call 111 and speak to them - they can sometimes make an appointment or arrange a phone call for you
