Had LRP three weeks ago , catheter removed four days ago ,now 100% incontinent ,not expecting miracles, but any hints or tips would be hugely appreciated. Thank you and all the very best.  Pate53

  • Sorry you are 100% incontinent pate53.

I presume you are doing pelvic floor exercises?

If I were you I’d phone your specialist nurse and see if you can get an appointment with a urology physiotherapist to check you are doing the exercises properly. I wasn’t doing them properly until the physio put her finger in my anus and taught me!

  • Yes i am doing PFEs. When i had catheter out asked nurse to confirm by  watching she said yes i was.Think i am being impatiant, looking for a quick fix.

  • Hopefully things will improve over the next few weeks. Take care.

  • Much the same op 4 weeks ago catheter removed after 2 weeks now full on leakage.

PFE exercises 4 times a day following the NHS Queezy App. Unsure if there is any improvement to date or if I’m doing them correctly but will persevere and discuss with the consultant when he rings in six weeks time

Can anyone offer any information on Penal Clamps or the Sheath Catheter experiences, types recommended and if they help this early in my recovery

  • I’m also exactly 3 weeks but went into retention when catheter first removed day6 so only had it removed again 5 days ago so keen to compare notes. My bladder fills up fine to 300mls or so if I’m lying or sitting and when it’s full and I’m bursting for a wee, have almost no leakage walking around. However if I’ve just emptied it, I can’t get it to fill up at all when standing despite trying to ‘hold’ a pelvic floor contraction

    Do you have similar experience?

Any tips from people further down the road welcomed!

  • My only tip  is to use a folded over baby’s nappy instead of the incontinence pads as I just kept peeing off to the side of them and soaking my pants.. By using a nappy you can wrap it around your dick so it can’t leak out sideways. Cheaper  too!

  • I had my catheter removed 17 days ago. the first few days were miserable and the brain says this will never change. I was dry in bed first night. Dry sitting on day 3. Now i am dry all morning whatever I do and only have a bit of leakage later in the day when I reckon my body is more tired. Take it a day at a time. It will get better.

  • Hi GUP - thanks for your reply. Sound similar to me and given me a lot of hope!  In the early days did  you actively try to hold it in all the time when walking about or just try to do the exercises? If just the exercises, did you do them with full or empty bladder?

    thanks again

  • I try lots of different things. Try to hold as much in as possible before letting loose. Count the seconds and it helps me see the improvement. I am up to 15 now compared to last week which was an average 6. I try and carry on without thinking about it every minute. I went for a haircut yesterday and the cinema the other night. I would empty out before I head out and concentrate on life! Its always later in the day when its worse but anyway I am positive this will be a good day.

    1. Thanks again. I thought I was doing ok and today realised I had forgotten to live a bit as well rather than spending all day thinking about my pelvic floor! I’ve been digging the garden today and keeping it in for 5-10 mins then getting a soaking but it’s been good for me to relax a bit.

still only day 5 post catheter. I’ll not reply again for a while but get back to you next week. Have you measured how much you pee? I was only 200mls 3 days ago, now up to about 350.

    thanks again
