Hi everyone, I’m 57 and new to the forum.
I’ve recently been having problems passing urine. My urine test showed white blood cells and protein, and subsequent blood tests showed a raised PSA of 5.6.
I’ve now been referred for a prostate MRI, which should take place within the next two weeks.
Obviously, it’s a worrying time, particularly with the uncertainty, but I’m trying not to jump to conclusions.
I’d be interested to hear from anyone who’s been in a similar position, particularly with a PSA around my level. What was your experience, and what happened after your MRI?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Scoutabout13
Sorry that you have had to join us on this forum - but welcome!
You have said it yourself - "try not to jump the gun". Raised PSA can be caused by infections and other issues so try not to overreach too much. And yes it is a worrying time, no getting away from that.
Good that you have the MRI referral which should be able to give an idea of what is going on. When you have the results please come back to us on this thread and let us know - the folk here are very good at understanding the results and will be able to assist.
In the meantime you can see our own stories by clicking on our names or roundels - it will help give some context for the person responding and usually shows how they are getting on.
Myself I didn't even get to an MRI, just very quick CT and Bone Scans and a biopsy booked as my initial asymptomatic PSA was 953. A year on and it is undetectable!!
Stay positive, be strong
