What is the likelihood or chances of a link between my dads sister having had breast cancer that went to bone and ultimately she passed away after 5 years and him having been diagnosed with prostate cancer Gleason 7 4+3, T2C with risk of T3a - he’s awaiting a bone scan before he can start any treatment for a hopefully curative pathway.
we’re just really anxious the bone scan may show something up when his sister ended up with spread to bone?
Can there be a family link ?
Hello Concerned Daughter, this family history of breast and prostate cancer could be linked genetically. My husband has a family history of both cancers and we raised the same query with his medical team. He was referred for genetic counselling followed by genetic screening. No known suspect genes were found in his blood sample but, as they told us, there could be as yet unidentified cancer causing genes. As a result our sons have annual PSA tests and our daughters have annual mammograms.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
