My OH has recently had his 2nd prostap3 injection.
His first was administered to the arm but after speaking to others they seemed to be of the impression its better to be given in the stomach, buttock or thigh?
He had no issues after the first in arm but this second one almost instantly a hard lump appeared at the injection site. He has asked GP, radiologist at RT planning scan and also his prostate specialist nurse about this and none of them appeared to be concerned and said to massage the lump and it would disperse. He is worried that the contents have ‘congealed’ there and not making its way through his system. Has anyone else had this problem? Its now been 10 days and although slightly smaller the lump is still there.
Hello Rooky
I am sorry to read of this issue. My understanding is that once the injection has been given the contents solidify and then over the 3 month period the contents are ingested into your body.
I am on Decapeptyl as my HT treatment and that is given in the gluteus maximus (buttocks). I am aware most Community members are given Prostap in the stomach.
Here's a copy of the patient information leaflet:
If you read item 3 on page 5 it says inject into the arm, thigh or abdomen.
I hope the above helps - personally I would be asking the GP to confirm the injection has been performed successfully when it was administered.
Best wishes - Brian.

I received four Prostap 3 injections plus the initial four week version and an extra four week version to slip my three monthly ones to fit in with holidays.. None of these created a lump, the first was in the upper arm, subsequent ones in the stomach.
I asked the nurse when administering the second about the location of the injection and was told that in the arm was recommended when Prostap was used in females with breast cancer and in the stomach for us males suffering from prostate cancer. I have no idea if these recommendations are documented any where, it's just what I was told.
