Well, PSA results are back and it's up again as expected, now at 3.80.

Further blood tests ordered to test my testosterone (I can tell them it's back without a test Innocent) and liver and kidney function and a PSMA PET Scan is being ordered.

I will keep you all updated - I know now after 3.5 years why they call this a "journey"

Thank you all for your comments and good wishes and continued support across the entire Community.

Best wishes

Brian - Online Community Champion

  •  Brian  . Good luck with the scan tomorrow and please pass on our good wishes to Lorraine and the rest of the family (especially the dogs as they might miss their walk tomorrow!).

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift.

  • Well Scan done and dusted - I must say we have a new "Community Diagnostic Centre" here in Oldham and it's outsourced by our NHS Trust to Alliance Medical.

It's the first time I have been as a "Customer" (I have taken family members for appointments before) and I must give full credit to the entire staff for their professionalism. From the receptionist to the nurse who fitted my cannula (I am needle phobic) such a pleasant team - all smiles. Well done.

And now the wait for the results............................and a plan. Rofl.

Thanks again everyone - you just don't know how valuable support is until you start going through the diagnostic and testing process - again!

    Kind Regards -Brian. Thumbsup.

  • I agree, the support is everything.  I'm teaching you to suck eggs here, but it never hurts to hear it again, despite saying so often yourself...!

Listen to the doc and his diagnosis, ask for options, write them down, then go away and discuss them.  Research things and ask the CNS's for thoughts on your ideas, they can help too.  Then sit in front of the doc knowing what you want and be prepared to compromise if necessary.  As you well know, we can offer support and help with advice if we've been through whatever is thought to be, (or when it's decided) what the plan of attack is.  Don't stress during the waiting time, it aint going to change the result, so why stress?

Hope it's all good news and plain sailing.

    Peter

  • Hello Peter (

Thank you for the message - having started my journey on a hospital bed and only just making it to the next day I know life is precious and have become a better person for it - I don't stress about anything.

The one thing about being a Community Champion is not only do I "know" most of the group - I also have the backing of my fellow Community Champions on other groups (we "meet" at least once a month and we all work on certain groups). I also have the 7 man/woman Community Team behind me too so the level of support I have as well as my family and friends is just amazing.

Moving forward I have a flow chart with the "what if's" - I have all the possible scenarios and what I would like if that's the case. I don't think I will need it though as I have a fantastic team looking after me.

I hope all is well with you, and thanks again for your support.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • Good to hear this hurdle has been jumped!  Sounds like you received good care too. I hope the results won’t be too long in coming. Then you will be able to plan accordingly. I hope Lorraine is doing ok also? Fingers crossed for the best outcome for you x

  • I’m not joking when I say I’m on the edge of my seat with this. When will you know? BW has a blood test in a month, just checking as it will be only 6 weeks since the switch off of Abiraterone. Probably too early and he’s still having Zoladex. So probably no change.  What with you and him - my chocolate and wine consumption is expected to go through the roof !

  • Good Afternoon ( & Lorraine

All good today, never even got chance to sample reception, booked in called through, paperwork cannula scan and off home - super quick.

Lorraine's worried but trying not to show it - she's doing great in the circumstances. We have had the sit down and "what if" chat about all the scenarios and she kept saying - "well at least I still have you". She's a super Starand normally I need to be near death to get any sympathy but she's being really good at the moment and picking off household jobs I normally do!!

In a way it's valuable experience as a Community Champion to go through the testing and waiting again although I don't do "anxiety" so I am fine.

i spoke to the scan team and the results of the scan are uploaded to my team today so I assume i will find out tomorrow or Wednesday depending on how busy they are.

What with you and him - my chocolate and wine consumption is expected to go through the roof !

It's fine for you - Mr BW and me are going through hell and all you can do is eat chocolate and get pissed!!!!!!!!!!!RoflRofl, pity us!!  Life is tough!!

Thanks both for your continued support - we are luck to have wives like you.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • And I thought I had a lot behind me with the CNS's, oncology outpatient sister and staff, and two community cancer nurses that work with my GP practice plus all of the Macmillan nurses and literature.

I knew you knew all of that and it was partly to make sure you hadn't forgotten the basics  with the disappointment of the new diagnosis.  Still, it's good reading on what to do for others who are still on the journey to read!

  • Well Brian and BW - for me it would not be wine and chocolates - it would be licquorish all sorts!!!

I can well imagine Lorraine’s anxiety! But I also suspect she might be hiding her fears from you as best she can?

I know that all of us here are rooting for the best possible for you and Lorraine so you can be on that plane and off to Turkey asap!

  • Hello

Yes, she's doing well in hiding them. I know she's speaking to the 2 eldest girls all the time and a big bunch of random flowers the other day helped. I am very open with her and she knows just where I am with everything.

Having holidays "on hold" is hard as we love ours so a good result will be a boost for both of us - she's doing fine though and as an ex nurse - well she'a tough old bird!!Joy. In her own words "we will fight this together" and she's not let me down.

    Kind regards - Brian.
