Hello everyone,
This site has been invaluable for information and positivity since my Dad was recently diagnosed with Advanced Prostate Cancer, which includes bone mets. He went into full bladder retention and needed catheterisation. After a period of time to give everything time to calm down, he has recently had a TURP procedure and the catheter removed last week. He is passing urine again albeit more frequently than he would like, but at least things are working! Could I please ask if there are any members who have had this procedure and are willing to share their experience as to how they are doing? I appreciate that everyone's journey is different, but it would be good to know what he can expect. Many thanks.
Hi MiniMee29
I can't answer your question personally as I haven't had a TURP, but as there are many in this group who have including Millibob the forum champion (who is in Turkey at the moment but usually dips into the conversations whilst away). I'm sure someone will be along shortly with some information.
Best Wishes
Brian
Hello MiniMee29 and thank you Buzzers
Yes I have had a TURP and am sat on my balcony in Turkey!!
So the TURP slices a bit off the Prostate and clears the way to having a decent wee. Once you have had the TURP you need to practice your pelvic floor exercises. Once my catheter was removed I was 3 times an hour - I am now every 3 hours- but it’s taken the pelvic floor exercises to get there.
I hope that helps - you can read my full journey by clicking on my name or avatar. Any questions feel free to ask.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hello MiniMee29
So I had a catheter for 10 months. After the TURP I was every half an hour. It’s the pelvic floor exercises that got me back to normal. It took 3 months to get back to once every two hours.
It’s the muscle you use to stop a wee . Once you can control that and you know you can stop a wee - life gets better.
There is an App for it but here it Turkey I can’t add links.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hello There
Think the app is called Squeezy if its kegel excercises you are meaning.
You can download it from playstore think it costs £2 ish a one off payment. My OH urologist suggested it and advised to do the excercises prior to cancer treatment and after catheter removal.
Enjoy your well deserved holiday Brian!
Thanks Ann Ann33
You are a star- I will have another Raki on the basis of your reply
Best wishes - Brian.
