Just a quick update, seems trivial compared to the sh!t some of you guys are going through right now, sending much love to you all Heart

Dads PSA is now 18, up from 8.6 about 6 months ago. We know treatment is probably never going to be on the table for him due to multiple health conditions(they said they'd possibly consider treatment at PSa 25/30)dementia being the biggie. But in addition to the PSA rise he has deteriorated physically quite significantly, has lost 31lbs in since summer with a calorie rich diet and now having problems peeing(urgency, pain, not emptying, stop start, treated for infection but to no avail)

Just hard seeing the changes I suppose

  • Good Morning

Thank you for the update and I am so sorry to read of dad's present condition. If I remember correctly you did say some months ago dad was doing great with the vascular dementia and he had surpassed all expectations.

I appreciate you worrying about the rise in PSA but taking all his other conditions into account (don't forget we aren't medically trained) I would think there are other things going on. Any treatment for Prostate Cancer is harsh and I would not be adding this to his other issues.

All I can say is be there for him, and don't forget to look after yourself, being a carer takes it's toll (I have been there with my parents - I know) Please do call the Support line on 0808 808 00 00 (8am to 8pm 7 days a week) even if it's only for a chat. Stick with us and if you need to vent, chat or just need any help or information we are all here for you.

    Kind Regards - Brian x

  • Hello Dads Carer, watching a loved parent suffer and feeling unable to wave a magic wand to make things better is incredibly painful. I don’t know your Dad’s medical history to comment about his medical treatment, I’m afraid , but I do hope you are both getting the support and care you need - both practically and emotionally?

as Brian says, take care of yourself , too. It’s a tough journey that you are on. Do let us know how things go. My thoughts are with you x
