Hi People.Due a Bone/Body Scan tomorrow.I had one five years ago when first diagnosed.First was a Dye then I was told to go to the Cafe to let the Dye circulate. Then back to have the Scan.Any advice on changes,if any, to the procedure. Not looking to it.
Derek
Hello Derek.
The procedure is still the same with the radioactive tracer so be careful around pregnant women and children for a few hours. Make sure you are well hydrated beforehand and drink plenty afterwards to flush it out of your system. You are doing fine but if you are a little nervous then let the technicians know and they will look after you. Let us know how you get on.
Hello Derek Summer and Winter
Mine was 3 years ago. Canula in the back of the hand for the tracer and then wait about an hour and a half, have something to drink whilst you are waiting and come back for the scan.
Painless but waiting around is a pain (I was a hospital in patient at the time so I had nothing else to do!!).
Best wishes for tomorrow.
Best wishes - Brian.

The main thing I remember about it (apart from the boredom waiting around) was the fact that the scan was in the nuclear medicine dept. I had visions of the TV series Chernobyl in my mind.
In the end it was pretty much of an anti climax - quite straight forward & painless.
Best Wishes
Brian
My bone scan was in July 2023, I attend the department for the canular in the back of the hand for the tracer to be administered. I was then asked to return to the same department in about two hours. The staff were envious of the fact that we (wife & I) were then going out to lunch at a local pub and return as requested.
The scan at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital was in a rather noisy and slow machine but nothing distressing in any way.
The actual scan and its procedure are nothing to be concerned about, the nerve jangling part is waiting for the results which in my case took about a month. The actual analysis of the scan was carried out by an external company, 4Ways Diagnostics, who reported to the hospital almost two weeks before the hospital reported to me!
I only have these dates because I have requested my records from the hospital and I can now view the scan on my own PC.
