  • Hi Dartmoor

So looks like just outside the gland but hopefully no where else.

Still potentially curable, hopefully they will do the further scans soon so they can start u on HT in order to stop a further spread.

That's it in a nutshell but any questions please ask

    Best wishes

  • Hello

Thanks for the MRI results - so if you have a "average size" prostate the cancer has taken over half of it (The Prostate is the size of a walnut) and its also broken out of the gland however to date it's not gone "walkabout".

I am a T3aN0M0 and on a "Curative Pathway" (which ends on Friday!!) so all looks good for a cure. (You can read my journey by clicking on my name or avatar - I did have a few other issues on the way!!).

My only concern is your biopsy is 18 December, and we have Christmas and the New Year which will delay your results and then you need to wait for your MDT meeting which could see you to the end of January meaning any treatment would start in February 2025.

Personally I would ask your team if they are happy to set you off on Hormone therapy now as a T3a you don't want the cancer going "walkabout". As you haven't had your biopsy you have no idea of your Gleason Score (how aggressive the cancer is).

The above is only my personal opinion

    Best wishes - Brian

  • This is an interesting point Brian and one that I often think about.

T3a just outside the gland , you would think that HT asap to halt it in its tracks.

But one question then , can it mask further scans IE, not show any bones mets because of the HT.

Rock and a hard place springs to mind

    Regards

    Steve

  • Hello Steve (

It's my understanding the Hormone Therapy can affect bone density but as far as I am aware (I have been wrong before and not medically trained) it does not affect future scans. I had a bone and CT scan 5 months after starting HT.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks for the info Brian

    Steve

    Thumbsup

  • i delayed mine because I was getting a PET/PSMA CT scan which needs the tumor to express PSA and the lower the PSA level the lower the sensitivity (but if you are taking an LHRH agonist (most HT) then the flare of testosterone can actually pinpoint any smaller micro mets. I have read it can impact the other scans somewhat but does not mean they are not useful so you need to talk with your care team and as   says, Christmas is not ideal so you may need to push a bit.

They should really do the contrast CT and bone scan in the same week and get the results the next day. It is a scandal you need to wait.

  • Many thanks Brian

I had not considered your points before and am grateful.

I shall speak to my specialist.

    Much appreciated - Mike
