My oncologist call me this afternoon about me having refused the radiologist treatment, radiologist in Catharina hospital in eindhoven only wanted to radiate my prostate and nothing else ,I want more ,so no agreement on treatment, in the talk with my oncologist I explained to her that I wanted a second opinion but I was questioning the fact if it was in another Dutch hospital the outcome wood be the same ,because of what I think are the protocols in the country , for example, they radiate till 4 lymph nodes in the pelvis, not one more ,and if you have another spot in the body, lymph node or bones, they simply don't radiate them with curative intent anymore,I ask her for a personal or professional opinion, because I want a chance of cure or at least destroy the most cancer cells as possible to give better chances in the future, I tolder that I know that no one can say it can cure me but I want the treatment that provides me better chances ,so she advise Leuven university hospital because, according to her ,there is a radiologist/professor there that is more outside the box compared to the Dutch rigid protocols, I'm just said her to wait a few days so I have time to investigate the hospital, for what I saw till now they made a study supporting the idea of lymph nodes radiation in the pelvis. I forgot Leuven is in Belgium.
By the sound of it, you may want to look at brachytherapy boost : internal brachytherapy operation + external radiotherapy to the whole pelvis up to L5, and hormone therapy. That’s what I had. AW
Good news Murcao. Do your research but by the sound of it you are being offered the chance of a second opinion which might align with your wishes. Nothing lost by going for it.
Hi !
Sounds good and hopefully you can get a second opinion and also a treatment with curative intent in Belgium then and, fingers crossed. Now you’re on a very good systemic treatment anyway that will keep the cancer under control
Look for the possibility of EBRT, if possible with a boost (SIB or Brachy) and of course the most important part; Whole Pelvic Radiation Therapy (WPRT)
Best wishes - Ulf
I'm completely in panic about that ,I'm afraid of having too much expectation and end up crushed to the floor ,I read that they are in favor of radiate all pelvic nodes to prevent eventual spread ,but at the same time I'm scared being told that with already some positive lymph nodes they can no longer do anything, like I told before ,at this moment, I'm a half empty glas guy, I hope they can give good news so my mind set can change, now I'm just a carcase full of fears ,fear of the future, fear of the radiologist have to say ,eventual radiotherapy side effects, eventual hormonotherapy side effects, many dark clouds above my head now ,hope to listen some good things and see those clouds go away and see sunshine again.
