Can anyone tell me honestly what it like to have a prostate biopsy please - is it painful, uncomfortable or both. Would some sort of sedation help, like diazepam?
Thank-you
Jonney
Hi Jonney
I think I was just unlucky with my first biopsy as I thought my consultant wasn’t good. Had blood in pee at the hospital which is common and cleared up after a few days,
After both I walked home (about 10 mins) I’m sure your biopsy will be better and going by my second one it’s not to bad.
I wish you well on your pathway
Hi Jonney,
I can only refer you back to my reply on the first page of this thread. Please don't be alarmed or concerned by reports on this procedure as from my experience there is no need to be. Admittedly in the case of both patients and hospital staff it can be different every time but there must be hundreds of these procedures carried out daily resulting in little or no distress to the patient. To give you a clue to numbers, the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital was performing sixteen of these biopsy procedures per week, every week and sometimes having to add an additional eight some weeks.
As for the dietary advice for the period of the RT this seems to vary from none to quite a long list, again depending on the hospital. In my case it was advice to refrain from alcohol, caffeine and any foods that generate wind in the bowel. I spoke to a good friend this weekend who went through this procedure some five years ago and he tells me that he had no specific dietary advice at all.
I wish you well on your journey,
Rod
Hi Rob
I find it very concerning dietary advice is so inconsistent across the NHS.
The list we were given was extensive and, had I not received it, I feel I would have had real problems, even getting to the hospital.
Regards
Stuart
Hi Jonney -
Had my biopsy 3 days ago - see write-up on my thread. Bottom line - in my experience, nothing to be worried about.
Cheers.
Recent MRI - Lesion 13mm, Likert 4 maybe 5. Urgency, timelines ?
