Hi i was diagnosed with prostate cancer Gleeson 3+ 4 - localised . I have been given choices of surgery, radiotherapy and recently cryotherapy. I wonder if anyone has been through cryotherapy and their experience . Many thanks in advance for your help and support.

  • Hi Stephen1 I don't know anything about the cryotherapy treatment I am the same Gleason 3+4 I wasn't offered that option but I've chosen the surgery. I'm sure there will be someone on the forum that has the relevant knowledge to help you I just wanted to say hello and offer my support if you want to chat.

    Best Wishes

  • Thank you very much Michael.  Hope you recovery was uneventful.

  • Hi Stephen1 I am currently awaiting surgery but it was a difficult decision. Only you can make the decision that you feel is best for you but I did find some posts on the forum very helpful.

    Wishing you all the best

  • Hi  . I am not sure how many replies you will get on here as it is still a relatively new technique in the UK but I have added a link to a thread on the PCUK forum which you might find interesting.

All focal therapies rely on the expertise of the person carrying them out so I would check on how many prostate procedures they have done and what their success rate is. Generally the advantage of cryotherapy is that it is a quick procedure with fewer side effects compared to surgery plus it leaves more options for the future in terms of treatments available if necessary. The success rate seems to be about 80% in terms of non recurrence after 3 years but there are many things which come into the equation like risk stratification of the cancer.

  • I was similar and had surgery on 9th October, I had an infection due to catheter but recovering well. I hope you have the best treatment and recover well, cryotherapy wasn't mentioned for me but RT HT was.

  • Hi Stew best wishes for your continued recovery
