Hi all
This is for a friend of a friend so don't have a lot of detail.
He was diagnosed with PC some years ago and has been on AS since the diagnosis . Then about 1 year ago he was diagnosed with bladder cancer , apparently not to do with the PC.
He is obviously very confused and the question is , does anyone know the likelihood of getting two different cancers together like that. I think he has had some treatment for the bladder cancer, flushed out with chemo I think.
Thanks
Steve
Hi Steve.
I know we have had a few on the forum with concomitant prostate cancer and bladder cancer. The incidence of prostate cancer followed by bladder cancer is quite low but information from biopsy on cystoprostatectomy samples have been found to show 24 to a 51% occurrence of prostate cancer.
https://www.nature.com/articles/nrurol.2017.124
Another report suggests that the incidence is as high as 70%.
This report suggests the incidence of bladder cancer after prostate cancer diagnosis is about 3.4%
Hi AH
Thanks for that, very interesting, I shall pass it on.
Suppose all down to staging just like PC in terms of being successfully treated.
I have read that Chemo for Stage 1 and 2 bladder cancer fairly good at getting rid of it.
All the best
Steve
From memory bladder cancer can be treated with BCG immunotherapy injections as well as the chemotherapy flush.
