Hi everyone,  I am new here ans just after some support.

2 weeks ago my partner was diagnosed with prostate cancer, Gleason score 9. He did a PET scan privately as NHS not moving fast enough to our liking and sadly it showed that the cancer had spread to the bones.

We are told it isn't curable but treatable. I am just after some testimonials of people living with stage 4 prostate cancer and any tips really.

We are both still in shock but very positive even though the diagnosis is worse than we could have imagined. He is going for the triplet treatment and we are also making some major lifestyle adjustments, although he is already relatively fit and healthy.

His PSA count was 5.2ng/ml which his GP didn't find alarming but still prescribed an MRI to be sure. He also has no symptoms whatsoever. So glad he insisted to have things checked for "peace of mind".

We have a 1.5 yo little boy who loves his daddy more than anything so we are very determined to do everything it takes for him to be around for as long as possible.

Thanks

    • I can’t thank you all enough, just hearing other people and advice is tremendous.  I’ve so much to ask but I’m afraid I would be writing all day. I do feel positive at times and I am aware it’s early days but I think it’s the unexpected that’s really bothering me. We’ve not heard anything since diagnosis and that’s a worry.  I’m sure the letters will come flooding in soonFingers crossedThankyou.
  • Hi Majestic,You’ve certainly found the right place for advice as everyone has that wee input that helps,I’ve found it easier at times to get advice as my Wife is worried as well ,keep positive and although we have down days most days are good, sending hug’s Robert

  • Thankyou Robert, I’m just wishing I’d found this forum earlier, I feel as if a very dark cloud has lifted, just knowing people are there to listen and give wonderful advice. It is helping so much.

  • Afternoon Myrtille, really sorry your here, my husband was diagnosed on March 12th.

He has advanced prostate cancer and has been told not curable but treatable, he had his 2nd round of chemo last week and is doing ok with this,  he is on hormone tablets and injections also steroids which has unfortunately his triggered diabetes  just to add to this list Disappointed relieved.

It is a sharp learning curve and I understand only to well how you feel.

Everyone here is so supportive and helpful.

Thank care of yourself as well as your husband.

    All the best.

  • Thankyou so much Millibob. Your kind words have meant so much. I will try and upload our short journey as I’m not much of a tech wiz but I’ll give it a go. The support off everyone has overwhelmed me. The loneliness over the past few week on this journey is starting to diminish. Thankyou all again.

  • Hi Myrtille,

Many people on this community had chemo and sailed through it. What I learnt in the last 6 months is not to worry too much and it does help to deal with this situation.

Just to say that we are planning our holiday for September. 6 months ago it was inconceivable.

There is life around the corner.

    Lots of love

    Dafna

  • Hi  , we have all been where you are and it isn’t fun, but things do get better.  Feel free to ask any questions. Best wishes. David

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • Thankyou David, that is so kind of you, I do have a list of questions waiting in the wings. Just don’t know where to start without sounding stupid. You all seem that knowledgeable and very updated. I did google at the start of this journey but went into shock. Never again. Thankyou.
