Hi Guys its me again well firstly thank you for being so warming from my newbies post i have now had Zoladex LA 10.8mg First Injection Complete (29.02.2024) What To expect from here i was wondering if the gracious chaps and ladies could kindly help with what to expect as still not seen an oncologist only nurses (who are lovely) but very much oh it will be fine i mean this in a nice way.
So am i right tothink this with the 28 day course of tablets will slow down the cancer growth and i am wondering when it starts grabbing hold and also how would i know if it is actually starting to work do you think i would go for another psa test im sure this will be a daft question as im very unsure if this stops the cancer growing or stops it.
Reaching out to my lovely urology nurses they seemed really unconcerned about treatment and said i will hear from my oncology doctor soon for an appontment but just need a bit of undersanding and reassurance.
i have updated my profile hope you all having a good week
just as anote i have been on the tablets now 9 days and injection yesterday and to be fair feel no different i remember reading millibobs reply saying he was 6 months in before and side effects i hope this makes sense i look forward to hearing back from you guys

Hello Tango2pints Graham
Your profile is perfect - we now know where you are with your journey and what you can expect - so in simple terms:
Prostate Cancer feeds on Testosterone - if you haven't got any, it can't grow - the Hormone Therapy reduces your testosterone to a very low level.
3 - 6 months after you have stopped feeding the little sods you have your Radiotherapy which kills the basta*ds.
And that's all there is to it:
* You have a course of 28 days of Bicalutamide at the start of your treatment as the first Hormone Therapy injection can cause a "tumour flair". These tablets should stop this.
* Side Effects - We don't get them all - and mine took 6 months and then hit me like a train. The first ones will be Fatigue and Erectile Dysfunction - but I have kept working all through my 26 months (OK I drive a computer but it's work!!).
I hope the above helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

Thankyou brian that is great for your reply may i ask would this then start to cause a decrease in psa levels?
Hello Graham
Your PSA levels will be on their way down as we speak. I know your last PSA test was in December and it's not usual for you to have one now until your "Radiotherapy Planning Scan" although every health authority does things differently.
Yes the Hormone Therapy works from day 1.
Best wishes - Brian.

Thank you so very much next week i am going to find the macmillian centre in my hospital
Hi Graham,
My husband had the same start of treatment as yourself. He received his 2nd zoladex injection 10 days ago and he started Enzalutamide early January. The side effects mainly hot flushes, fatigue and ed started two months after starting the HT. His PSA dropped nicely from 11.8 to 0.54. The HT works fast in reducing the PSA and with that suppressing the bas..rd PC.
When you will have your first appointment with the oncologist, things will be clearer and in order. You will know what to expect: PSA tests and a plan. Maybe you can chase and check if you can bring forward the oncology appointment.
With all the best wishes
Dafna
Hey there hope you well just thought i would check in to say hi to everyone been a busy two weeks of work however i thought this would make you laugh .
out with friends earlier popped into wetherspoons for a bite to eat, to which i thought it was bloody boiling hot (it was not as i noticed everyone wearing coats)
This was the point i stood up looking like aradiator and at the top of my voice announced "i think im having my first hot flush"
then sat down embarassed , to which a young chap approached our table and cery nicely stated" if you are doing the change may i suggest the catherine wheel pub tomorrow as its transgender & alternative night"
i had no idea what to say so i figured id buy some tickets
hope you amazing people are doing well & i look forward to catching up on the forum over the weekend

Good Morning Tango2pints - That made me laugh out loud - I am in Turkey on holiday at the moment otherwise I would have joined you for a pint - it sounds like a cracking night out !!
Side effects creep up on you - I was by the pool on holiday last year when Number 2 daughter commented "dad your tits are bigger than mine now" - yes my "moobs" have grown and as it's been slow I never noticed.
Keep on with the positive attitude - it's half the battle with this cancer.
Best wishes - Brian.
