Well his 10am appointment
This was the result
He has prostate cancer
Stage T3b N 0 and M- they can't tell him yet as he has to have a bone scan which has been booked for tomorrow
Gleason score 9
They said likelihood they won't operate
MDT next Tuesday
hormone therapy ans radiotherapy is the probable treatments
Can't say if palliative or curative but I'm an NHS worker so a stage 3b doesn't hold out much hope
Hi K3rry4nn
That first diagnosis is very frightening and one of the main reasons for that is that you don't really know whats happening and it's natural to think the worse. It's is very much on the cusp of curative or treatable and I guess you won't know until you get all the tests back. If it's possible to get a PET scan before Hormone therapy get one as that will tell you a lot more. Try not to be negative as there is a lot of hope. Prostate cancer is one of the better cancers to have because it responds so well to treatment and if it's ends up not curative there are plenty of options to keep it at bay and in control for many years. You don't say what age your dad is and what was his initial PSA score at the start?
It's really important to stay positive for your dad as he will be feeling very worried. There is lots of treatment and hopefully lots more years to live ahead of him. If he sees you being frightened he will feel worse. Please don't panic at this stage as it will all calm down and you will see how effective his treatment will be once it gets underway.
Best wishes L
Ahh 26, thats really is quite low. that's less likely to of gone too far with a bit of luck. Take a breath, try and think positive. there are people here that have PSA's in the hundreds and thousands and they are ticking along nicely with treatment. Hopefully it won't be as bad as you first thought.

I’m a 3b. My report actually says “3b (possibly stage 4)”.
im still here. It’s early days, I was diagnosed 18 months ago. I’ve had ht and rt. Yes I’ve had a few issues, mostly bladder urgency, bowel control from rt burning the tube and tiredness/fatigue. But I’m living life basically as I was before. I’d say I’m 75% of what I was. But I’m alive, travelling, living a great life. In fact I’d say my kids (teens) haven’t noticed much of a change. Yes im a bit stiff but once I get going I’m gone!! ED is the worse thing because it affects my wife too.
So it’s not too bad really, I’m very lucky.

OK the results could have been better, but they could have been a lot worse.
You are still on the waiting game, which is horrible, but if it helps I started my journey over 6 years ago with T3b N1 M0 Gleason 4+5. PSA 74. It has been a bumpy ride but I am still here approaching my 75 birthday and looking forward to a few more years to go. Try and help your dad enjoy the good days and ride the bad ones. I can honestly say I appreciate life more now since my diagnosis and with my wife’s support have had a really good few years. Stay positive and fingers crossed for no mets.
Best wishes, David
