Hi, I’m new to this group. I was diagnosed in August & I’m having a prostectomy (robotic assisted) this Saturday 25th November.

  • Hello

A warm welcome to the group - we aren't a bad bunch.

I would usually ask you to stick a little more information up about your diagnosis etc but it looks like you are already on your chosen treatment journey - so I hope all goes well on Saturday.

Please keep us updated as to how it goes.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Brian, thanks. I’m 57, I had very excruciating random pain deep inside, it turned out not to be a stone & PSA’s above 10 + MRI & biopsies became a grade 2 intermediate. The hormone/radiotherapy wasn’t for me, I’m a driver & cant be having sleepless issues or toilet issues either. I failed the Brachy test & here I am! I figured remove it = problem fixed, a bit like a vehicle with a faulty part remove it…..although i can’t find a reconditioned replacement part anywhere!

  • Good Morning Tom

Thank you very much for the information - I went the other way HT/RT but didn't have a choice. I don't think I would have done surgery if it had bee offered, I am a bit of a wimp although I sailed through the TURP operation without any issues. (You can read my full journey by clicking on the icon of the beach)!

In view of your comments I hope when they get you on the ramp in the garage tomorrow the mechanic is one of the best and you get a full MOT with no advisories ! (As you say the won't have any parts on order !)

    Best wishes - Brian

  • Hi,

Sounds like you had a similar train of thought as my husband.  Gleeson of 3+4 and offered active surveillance, brachy or surgery.  Decided he couldn’t cope with this “thing” inside him and just wanted it fully gone.  At 53 and reasonably fit has a good chance of coping with recovery/side effects.

He has just had his surgery yesterday (after a slightly longer wait than we were anticipating, but got there in the end).  All went as planned apparently and he looked very well when I saw him in the evening - the anaesthetist had obviously done a very good job with the post surgery pain management.

Relieved the surgery is over, now to get on with the immediate recovery and dealing with the histology and first blood test results.

Hope all goes well for you on Saturday.

  • Hello

Sounds good to me - I do hope he makes a full recovery - I know it will take time and the hard work starts when he comes home.

As a Community we are all behind you. There are plenty of great people on here who have followed just the same journey as you. As well as keeping us updated with his progress, please fee free to ask any questions you have regarding his recovery.

Best wishes to you both - Brian.

That sounds like a plan. In hindsight I wish I had gone down that route. Unfortunately I bottled and went for RT and HT. Now realising how imprecise surgery is given that the prostate moves and is so close to bladder and rectum  and also the side effects of Hormone Therapy, I think you made a very good call. My mate went down the surgery route and three months later reports that it's as though it never happened.

    Good luck

  • I don't seem to be able to edit my last post. I of course meant " how imprecise radiation is"
