Hi All,
I recognise that prostate cancer is a disability but what are the schemes are you entitled to or recognized as a disability for you to forget access.
I believe you may get access to the following schemes and I wanted to know if there's any more:
* DWP's Access to Work for support in the workplace.
* For Access Card for getting into venues with your carer for free, not having to stand in cues for venues and gigs. Having special seating areas within venues.
* Taxi card scheme for getting around at a discounted rate.
* Carers card for people who are supporting new get in special discounts.
* Disability railcard for getting support with your travel and one third of the price.
Just some of the things I've come across and I've wondered if anybody knew of anymore for prostate cancer?
Regards,
Donald
When I looked at possible benefits it seemed to be indicating that it was means tested as it said that we were entitled to nothing.
Hi Shar.
I have put this link from ageuk which indicates that there are a range of disability benefits which are still not means tested. Do you want to pm me if you want a bit more help?
Hi Shar.I have just worked through the ageuk calculator as if I were living in the UK and it also said I wasn't entitled to anything but when I carried on further down the page it said my husband may be entitled to Attendance Allowance as it was not means tested. If you are below pension age it is PIP. The qualifying period is still 6 months unless you are terminally ill, when different rules apply. It does also stress getting help to fill in forms and seeking advice as to whether you may be eligible in the first place. They assess you on how much your illness impacts your day to day life, either physically and/or mentally with the base line being what you are like on your worst day.
Hi Alwayshope
What benefits are available for prostate cancer patients if their cancer is aggressive and they are not able to work through ill health. Im 54 so if I had to leave work due to ill health having cancer. Just wanted to know what benefits I could apply for.
Hi Ash.
If you scroll up to the top of page 1 of this thread you will find that Kasvin has put links to different places you can get information from. I think your starting point is to get a confidential review with someone like Macmillan who are used to dealing with people who have cancer diagnosis and can guide you to the full range of benefits that might be available. When I was volunteering it only dealt with disability benefits so my knowledge is a bit limited. The important thing to remember is that for disability benefits you have to state things as they are when you are having a bad day and I would really advise you to get someone like Macmillan to help you fill them in as they know the criteria that are used. Also the system is based on quotas so often claims are unfairly denied. When I was volunteering 60% of claims which were initially rejected were subsequently overturned at appeal.
Hope this is of help.
Alwayshope thank you for your advice and I will speak to Macmillan regarding what I will be entitled to.
