What do they want your PSA level to be?. Husband's has dropped from 59.9 on diagnosis in April to 0.03 last week is this a good place to be after 3.5 months on hormone treatment or should it go any lower. Thanks
I would say that's good.
Mine has dropped from 383 when first diagnosed to 1.19 before the 3rd Chemo session today
I started hormone treatment 11 weeks ago and chemo is very 3 weeks
I'm happy with that result and hopefully it will go lower
Hi
I agree with the below I think 0.03 is good. Mine got down to 'undetectable ' but the definition of undetectable, differs, depending on where the test is processed.
Regards
Stuart
Thank you. I hope your chemo is going as well for you as it is for my husband, so far so good with few side effects
My PSA had risen to 15 on diagnosis and dropped to 0.4 after three months of HT. It dropped again to 0.1 (the minimum level measured by my NHS trust) after 20 sessions of RT. Three months later it had dropped again to <0.1 and stayed there until I finished HT two years ago. Six months after finishing HT it had risen to 0.2 and has stayed at that level for the last 18 months. The local Urology department nurse told me that as I still had the remnants of a prostate that level was perfectly acceptable and they would continue to monitor it at six-monthly intervals until five years post treatment. After that it would be annual tests until 10 years post-treatment. They will do nothing unless it rises above 2.
Thank you for this, Seamus. I have been somewhat concerned because my husband’s PSA at 0.026 after RT has risen to 0.065! Seeing your post makes me feel reassured!
Hi Shar .
That's magic - he's lower than me now - mines 0nly 0.438 6 months after RT and HT - I must complain to my NHS Trust or perhaps you get better value for money in Scotland!!! (OK so I did start off with a PSA of 182 so perhaps my result is fair after 21 months on HT.
To be honest with you anything under 4 is great and he's doing so well - you must be so pleased. The HT is working - the Chemo is working - it's looking good! Let's keep his PSA down there.
Best wishes to you both - Brain.

I thought you were - I could see your husband 6 foot 7 inches with a kilt and caber in his hand, eating a haggis!!
I blame it on my hormones - I will get back on my real sunbed (Yes I am on holiday in Turkey - again!! ) and will try to get my facts right!!
