Triplet Treatment

Hi all - my husband has been recently diagnosed (metastatic to lymph nodes only) and after his first consultation with the oncologist was offered triplet therapy. (ADT + docetaxel + darolutemide  - given at the same time).  I believe its fairly new to the NHS but wondered if anyone else had any experience of this combined treatment.  His next appointment is in 2 weeks and he has to make his decision then but apart from some reasearch i can't find any info from anyone who might had had this treatment.  thanks for reading :)

  • Hi my husband was diagnosed in April and so far has had 3 out of 6 sessions of chemo which is docetaxel. He also takes daralutamide twice daily and had 3 monthly hormone injections called decapeptyl. We were told that this is the best treatment available and attacks the cancer from all angles. I asked how long he would be on daralutamide for and consultant said 4 - 5 years or until they stop working and then something else will be given. So far so good with the chemo, only slight side effect is a metallic taste that starts about 5 days after chemo and lasts for about a week. He has the cold cap and so far no hair loss. Anymore questions please ask and I will try my best to answer.

  • Thanks very much, that really helped us in making  the decision to go with this treatment

  • There is quite a bit of info on the internet so worth having a look. I also found the telephone nurses very helpful at Macmillan as they explained the treatments to me in simple language that I could understand with no complicated medical terms

  • Hello Sharon - welcome to the club - as you have found out we are a friendly bunch.

Just to throw my oar in -I find your post interesting as you say it's gone "walkabout" to the lymph nodes only. So that would be a diagnosis of T3a N1 M0? I think.

Now it was thought mine had gone to the lymph nodes (Urology) but Oncology said "no it's not but we can "zap" the lymph nodes too. I ended up with Gleason 9(5+4) T3a N0 M0 so HT/RT but no Chemo.

My thinking (I have been wrong before) if it's only in the Lymph nodes do you need triplet therapy - I don't know.

If it helps you can read my journey by clicking on the icon of the beach. (I had a few issues on the way!).

I would love to hear your comments in view of the above.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Morning Brian,  thanks for your reply.  In my husbands case the diagnosis is  T3a N1 M1a (cancer cells are in lymph nodes outside of his pelvic area and have been biopsied positive within the clavicle (neck) area.  Lymph nodes cancerous all the way in-between and chemotherapy always on the cards but we hadn't banked on being offered the triplet treatment. best of luck with your continued journey :)

  • Hi SharonD,

My partner has a similar hard hitting combination  Abiraterone 1000mg and steroid Prednisolone 10mg.along side Zolodex. Thankfully combinations like this have been proven to extend life. (stampede trial)

Read my partners bio for his journey and info. "Abiraterone" has just become available as a first line treatment with the NHS, though they are slow to prescribe it. But is another good drug to combine.

It sounds like your husband is in good hands'

    Best wishes

  • Good Morning Sharon

Thank you for the clarification - it's the M1a - that's the bit I got wrong. Yes you are quite correct in saying that Chemo was always on the cards - I was clutching at straws trying to get you a "get out of jail card" for the Chemo.

I wish you and your husband my best wishes on this journey - it's very much a "joint" journey and he will need your support (even if he thinks he doesn't! - he's a man!).

Keep us posted and there's always someone in  the Community here for you.

    Best wishes - Brian.
