    • Thanks GR1 read your journey that has opened my eyes a bit , I was actually thinking have op 3 weeks rest in bed then back to work , now I read that I think I might have just jumped the gun a wee bit thinking how quick things will go thanks
  • It all depends on what sort of work you do, but I think 3 weeks is a bit ambitious because you will have a catheter in place for around 2 weeks. Don't let my husbands experience influence your decision though  as in spite of the issues he had, he doesn't regret getting the thing out.

By the time he had his follow up PSA test at 7 weeks post op,  he was able to get out and about. We did a 2 hour circular walk taking in the physio appointment and a couple of pints at the pub. I'm guessing as you are still working you are a younger man, so you may be back at work quite quickly.

I'm guessing that your cancer is quite low risk if you have to wait 3 months for the surgery.

  • My husband is 53 and has his op scheduled in for the beginning of November.  When I asked the CNS we were told 6 weeks off work.  I guess that will depend what kind of work you do.  He doesn’t do manual work.

(I did gasp a little at needing 6 weeks off and joked it’s because it’s a “man” op).

  • I was off for 4 months after my hysterectomy and a month after my cholecystectomy.

  • I was only off for two weeks after my cholecystectomy.  Hysterectomy I get.  It was a tongue in cheek comment though.

  • I had it done 21 months ago . I am 70  . I could have worked after 4 weeks , but you have to expect a period of at least some incontinence which may be unnoticeable to anyone else , but is still a bit disconcerting . Not much in the way of pain .

I took a while to get back to normal mentally . In retrospect I was mildly depressed for about a year .

I think I just had to get on with life and not worry to much about relatively minor side effects .

    PSA still undetectable.
