Cant make my mind up! Intially thought surgery, but, not sure I can cope with catheter etc. Graded 3/4 Gleeson : 2 Cambridge. Any thoughts on either with side effects?
Mornings all, still awaiting a second opinion from Leeds Jimmys as done Rotherham Sheffield and chesterfield of late and they sent me to some top consultants at Leeds , not looking good for them risking any thing other than HT with my Crohn’s, bloody Crohn’s!! So was asking on Crohn’s site if anyone is similar to my problem with prostate, nothing as yet , I know I’ve read that you can be in HT for a few years , but not sure how long I can receive it with no radiotherapy treatment along side it ,so worried about that , Jonny Mac
Cheers , Jonny mac
Hi Jonny
You can be on HT "lifelong", when they do that they tend to keep you on it for a few years, stop and give you a break - monitor your PSA and then put you back on it again.
There are of course other treatments if HT isn't working but I don't know how they would work alongside your Crohn's.
Honest opinion. If they say no RT but HT only, accept it, get on with life and try not to worry about something that may or may not happen - easy for me to say Jonny - but that's my outlook in life these days. I don't even worry now before a new PSA test. I re-read that bit - I know it sounds harsh - but I think if you are positive it's half the battle! I re-read that bit again - in no way am I being critical of you - I just want to help.
Best of luck, whichever way they decide is correct for you - keep laying those bricks - it will keep you fit whilst on the HT.

I have just done a little bit of research into Crohn's to educate myself as I am no medical dictionary
It would appear the main 2 reasons they won't agree to Radiotherapy are:
* The proximity of your stomach to your prostate and the chance the RT could damage the stomach.
* The thinking that Crohn's and the immune system are connected - they don't know what causes Crohn's and it's linked to the immune system. Radiotherapy also affects your immune system so again there is cause for concern.
I hope this helps a little and gives an insight into why you may well be denied the Radiotherapy.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Jonny - I think I was a bit harsh and hard on you with my reply - but you know where I was coming from - if I did cause any upset - I apologise!
Yes - there's no way it's coming out with Crohn's I am afraid - I have been reading up on it as I have a friend with it - an awful situation to be in.
As you say - I now have a nice pair (Thanks NHS). Mine had grown so well last Christmas during a game of charades I took my t-shirt off to pay a character and as I was pretending to be a boxer everyone fell about laughing as my moobs were flapping about!! - I didn't see the funny side at first!!
Have a great weekend - keep posting - we are all with you.
Best wishes - Brian. .

HT's working then - your PSA is lower than mine - I am only 0.45 .... but I did start off at 182!! Let's hope the Leeds guy gives you the OK!

Just spoke to Oncologist Lead Nurse, and decided to go the RT way.A difficult choice, had I been younger( less than 70),may have decided on surgery. But with the thret of possible longer incontinence, finally made the choice.Realise it wont all be plain sailing,Rt probably 4 months way,HT first. Like the nurse said : Whatever way you choose, just go with it,dont regret, take it as ir comes, everybody is different.
