Rising PSA after Salvage Radiation

17 Months ago I had a Robotic Prostatectomy done. PSA after procedure was 0.06.Three months later it was 0.16. Due to my age and pathology report I was referred to an oncologist. Gleeson 8 Stage 3a.

Salvage radiation followed in September 2022 with 35 sessions on my prostate bed and lymph nodes combined with Luprin over 6 months. By March this year my PSA dropped to 0.009 and Testosterone below 1. Six months later and my PSA has increased to 0.086 and my Testosterone to 18.
My next blood test is in 3 months time.

Has anyone else walked down this road? What is the likelihood that my PSA will come down naturally? As I understand it PSA should not climb after all the work done without a prostate, indicating cancer somewhere.

Kind Regards

Munster

  • Hi

Yes, at the moment I am on no medication at all. My oncologist mentioned that I would most likely need to go on medication and possibly HT.

To be honest, I am not sure what treatment will be best for me if he cannot treat it with SBRT again. I would like to understand Immunotherapy more before agreeing to anything. My Oncologist has always said I have plenty of years left and we are on a curative pathway. Today the look in his eyes were different, his prognosis is 7 years. This was a little confronting to hear, but I respect his diagnosis. I will clearly fight for much longer than that.

    Thanks

  • Hi  , I had SABR which I think is the same as SBRT and it was brilliant, so far no real side effects after 8 months.  I guess it depends if the little sods turn up in a place that is accessible (mine were in my sternum).  Good luck.

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • Hi All

I cannot believe that I am very happy to share that my Oncologist found a 7mm tumour on my C6 vertebrae. (I would have preferred not to anything at all). I see this as a positive result as my PET scan could have lit up like a Christmas tree, but it did not, thank goodness. This means no HRT or Chemo for a little longer.

The SBRT I had 15 months ago on my C5 and T4 has been successful, the cancer is gone. I will have SBRT over the next 2 weeks on my C6 and hopefully kick the can down the road another months.

    All of the best.

  • Hello Munster (

I love the positivity - just one tumour!! Brilliant.

Good luck with the SBRT and C6 and positive vibes moving forward.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi  , having had C5 and T4 zapped before, this isn’t your first rodeo. I agree that a single lesion on C6 is as good as you can have hoped for.  Time to get the ray gun out again!   AW

  • All in all, that seems to be good news.

    I am glad for you,

Lets hope the SBRT roasts the little so and so's.

    Changed, but not diminished.
  • Completed my 3rd and last SRBT session on my C6. My Oncologist administered 30 Gray in total. No medication at this stage, hope that was the last time I need radiation.

For the first time I have felt real discomfort and mild pain between my shoulder blades when I walk or take deep breaths. I had a short lie down after radiation and took over the counter pain killers. Nothing I cannot cope with, I know this to shall pass and tomorrow I should feel much better.

Over the last few weeks, I have found it a lot harder to focus at work. It may be time for a long holiday.

    All of the best
