My husband has been diagnosed with locally advanced prostrate cancer. He is unable to have radiotherapy because he has already had it for rectal cancer. He is reluctant to have surgery so is looking at hormone therapy on its own. Has anyone on here have experience of this treatment
Hi MP
I'm not an expert on HT so I hope that people will post who have been through it.
Just bear in mind that HT on its own won't cure the cancer but you've probably been told that.
Could be one of those occasions where it is worth considering surgery to cure it providing that the cancer hasn't spread into lymph or seminal vesicles.
U say locally advanced so assuming just outside the gland.
Hope that others post to advise on the HT
Best wishes
Steve
Hello misspolly and welcome to the Prostate Cancer forum - It's not where you want to be but we are a decent bunch.
I am so sorry to read your husband's diagnosis, he's had it rough! So Hormone therapy.
I have been on HT for 20 months and the HT works by stopping the production of testosterone which is in effect the "food" for Prostate Cancer. It works very quickly to bring the PSA down to an acceptable level. It's not guaranteed to work for life but there are different types and you can come on and off it.
There are side effects, Erectile disfunction, hot sweats, growing "man boobs", weight gain, loss of body hair, the ability to cry for England, the odd mood swing and the possibility of type 2 diabetes but you don't get them all and some are easily managed.
You can read my personal journey by clicking on the icon of the beach (I have had a few none HT issues but connected to PC on my journey!).
I hope this helps - if you want to ask anything, however trivial please feel free to do so.
Best wishes
Brian.

Thank you for your reply. I’ve shown this to my husband and I think it willl help him make a decision. He isn’t good at decision making. Couldn’t even decide if he wanted a glass of red wine or white wine last night. At 74 think he will take whatever time hormone therapy will buy him. He’s really not up for the incontinence associated with the surgery and he still has bowel issues after rectal cancer.
