I was scheduled for a consultancy appointment with a surgeon today but received an email and text message saying it has been CANCELLED now.

Hello Thor

I would reply to the e-mail requesting an early appointment as yours has been cancelled. If you don't get one give the hospital PALS service a shout.

Thanks Brian for the advice. Have just emailed and spoken as well. Have been told (on phone) they will re-arrange soonest they can and let me know.
