9.1 PSA Quite scared

Hi,

I just had an MRI and a PIRADS 4 lesion was detected.  I had a biopsy done and came back 3 plus 4. One core.

  • Hello oceanblue and welcome to the club!!

PSA of 9.1 and a Gleason Score of 7 (3 + 4) is very manageable. I can fully understand you being scared with a cancer diagnosis however in your case there are treatments available to you. (I am a Gleason 9 and had a PSA of 182 on diagnosis).

I an sure you will soon be invited to, or have a multi disciplinary team conversation which will give you the various options for your treatment journey. At this point I would think they would be either surgery or Hormone/Radiotherapy Treatment. My advice would be to read as much as you can about the two options and be ready to ask questions at your meeting.

Many of the "club members" have a diary of their journey to help people to decide which option to take - you can read mine by clicking the icon of the beach.

I hope the above helps - If you have any questions or just want a chat ask away.

    Kind Regards

    Brian.

Lots of good information  around these days, study everything so you can make the best choice.
    Good Luck

  • Hi Oceanblue,

My stats were very similar to yours - you can view my journey by clicking on my history.

After much research I opted for Brachytherapy (more about this is on the Prostate Cancer website at): https://shop.prostatecanceruk.org/pdf/publication/permanent_seed_brachytherapy_ifm.pdf

The benefit of Brachy is that it is just one procedure done under full anaesthetic.  I'm now 5 months post treatment and as you will see my PSA is down to 0.05. Apart from feeling a bit washed out in the afternoon (but at 77 I think I'm entitled to a snooze after lunch!) I'm feeing OK.  Despite a bit of fatigue I have just completed a 6-week, 1,700 mile, motorhome tour of Scotland - and I did all the driving.  If you want more details of what's involved please let me know.

    Good Luck

    Chris
