PSA was 616, came down to 100 after one Degarelix injection. Had 3rd injection on Frid & we asked for another PSA & result today 1.06!
Asked the receptionist to check it but yes that’s what it’s down to. What does this mean? Has the cancer stopped growing in prostate & bones.
He has apt with oncologist on Thurs & I’ve gone from thinking he’s going to say it’s too far gone & there’s no treatment & now today I’m thinking more positive & yes there will be treatment.
He is more patient & doesn’t speculate as much as me!

  • Hi JFM

Sorry you have not had a reply from anyone. You do say he's a Stage 4 and I remember you saying about a month ago he was going for a biopsy. Do you have his results - Gleason Score T/N/M numbers? These will enable people to give you better advice and a list of questions you can ask at your meeting.

The PSA results will come down. The Degarelix injection is a Hormone Treatment, this stops the production of testosterone in the body. The Prostate Cancer cells thrive on testosterone, if he hasn't got any it can't grow.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind Regards

    Brian.

  • I replied earlier today but it is somehow stuck with the moderators. I see from your profile your partner has had a hard time with potential heart problems too. The fact that his PSA has responded so well to degarelix is great and gives encouragement that further treatment will improve things more. Stage 4 is incurable but with new treatments and protocols hopefully things will stay stable for a long time. Wishing you both all best wishes.

  • Hi

my PSA was 893 I had chemo, radiotherapy and hormone treatment, the cancer was already in my bones and a couple of other places, plenty of scans and assorted medications and I’m still here seven years later, so I keep positive and fight where I can doing what I can.

like all the wives and girlfriends, your not on your own about worrying and what to expect, my wife and carer is always stressing about my welfare, When you see the oncologist try and have a plan B, first what will his treatment be second what will happen if the treatment fails, so you have some peace of mind.

    Stay safe
