Has anyone had chemo called docetaxel and tablets called decapeptyl. What was your journey like. My husband is coping far better with his diagnosis than I am. I have to keep hiding when I am upset because I don't want him to see me like this. The doctor said it can't be cured but can be treated for many years but when I pushed him on what many means he wouldn't say. How do you cope with such awful news. Husband says he is focused on the word treatable but I can't, I want it gone and cured.
Thank you. I think I have just worn myself out. We originally went private but there were no benefits to this moving forward so transferred to the NHS. I think we then got abit lost in the system so I spent hours on the phone chasing. Then the private referral for a pet scan got lost so again hours chasing this. Then another delay because the doctor and radiotherapy person were in discussions about whether the scan was needed so more chasing by me. Finally he had the pet scan then I had to start chasing for an appointment for the results and his hormone injections. I like to be in control and feel out of control
Hello Shar
this constant chasing is just so exhausting, isn’t it? I had to do the same for my husband and, actually, lost all confidence in the NHS. I have come to the conclusion that the clinical side of things is very good but it’s getting through the bureaucratic ‘treacle’ that is so hard. Like you, I spent all that time in tears! It was a case of tears of anxiety, exhaustion and frustration. We did get through the system eventually but I was in a dreadful state. I know I would not have got through it without the support so freely offered by some wonderful people on this forum.
I really hope you reach the other side of this horrible episode in your lives and that things go smoothly for you. I have always said this is a couples disease - us partners suffer too!
take care of yourself! You can and will do this! We are all rooting for you! X
Thank you so much. I really don't think I would have coped at all without this group and the fabulous people who reply so quickly with valuable information and advise and support
Just had one of those blood bags through the post but no covering letter so I presume we just take this to the hospital for husband to have a blood test done. They didn't say anything about this at the appointment last Wednesday. I am hoping because we have 2 hospitals under the same trust we can go to either as the results will just go on the system. The one my husband is normally under is further away and harder to get to than the one we will go to for the blood test so hope this is ok .
HinShar, I’m not sure what your set up might be there but the hospital send the forms/bags etc by post and my husband arranges an appointment to have his blood taken at our surgery.
HTH
We haven't really got a set up but I do no itbis difficult to get an appointment at our doctors for a blood test so think we will have to go to the hospital on Monday to have it done x
We were told last week husband has to have chemo but the doctor wouldn't let us make the decision on the day, very wrong in my opinion, so we go back to see him a week on Wednesday with our decision and then he said it will probably start in 2 weeks. We should have been allowed to make the decision there and then . I might take it further
Hi. From what we were told was that chemo should start within 12/52 of starting hormone therapy. Whether that’s from start of tabs or injections I’m not sure. In our case, saw consultant on the Friday with plan to start a week on the tueseday following so just over a week.
Hope that helps. X
