Hi my husband has had pain peeing ever since his radiation 8 weeks ago. Bladder not emptying properly ..still taking heavy painkillers ..went to urologist who says he needs a TURP. He is not keen at all. Anyone else been thru this ..he is also on HT. He needs to go a lot and sometimes has blood in pee. He is up once ot twice a night but he is a bit better than straight after radio therapy.

  • Hi DorisW

My hubby had radiation therapy last year and I’d say it took about 3 months before his peeing got back to normal. He also takes tamsulosin which helps enormously.

IM sure it will settle soon and his PSA was dramatically reduced after RT which was brilliant x

  • Good Morning Dorisw. Yes I have had the TURP operation. I had mine as the prostate had grown and in a nutshell almost crushed the bladder and it would not empty properly. the prostate was also blocking part of the urethra.

The operation was painless, I had the choice of a general or epidural anesthetic and chose the latter. I was only in hospital overnight and out the following lunchtime. As soon as the catheter was removed it was like magic - no issues in going to the toilet, no dribbling and after 10 months with a catheter I was feeling great. Doing my pelvic floor exercises gave me back most of the control, although I still enjoy the nocturnal toilet visits.

You can follow the entire journey by clicking on the icon of the beach by my name - if you want to know more just ask.

In my view, painless and worth every penny spent - thanks NHS.

    Kind Regards

    Brian.
