A relative recently diagnosed

Hello,

I hope that someone will be able to help me to understand my relative’s pathology report. I have been a member of the breast cancer group for almost five years and I’ve got to grips with the numbers and terms used there, but prostate cancer information is very different.

Sadly, looking at my uncle’s report, I think that his cancer may be advanced. PSA 29, Gleason 4+5=9, MCL 15, Cambridge =5. I couldn’t find anything about MCL online. Does anyone know what this means please? He has had some more scans and he has started hormone therapy and is due to have 15 sessions of radiotherapy. I know from my cancer treatment that the radiotherapy became more uncomfortable after a while and I wondered whether there are any lotions or creams that you could recommend?

I don’t know what to expect. From a practical point of view, I can rearrange my work, so that I can work from his home. I don’t know how debilitating the treatment will be and whether he needs a room downstairs etc.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

  • Hi Sarah

Had a quick look for MCL but not clear what it's about.

I think the thing missing here is the MRI report, does it say that cancer contained within the gland.

If it is then not so bad possibly curable, try and find out.

    Best wishes

  • Thank you Steve.

The MRI result hasn’t come back yet. Do you know how long it usually takes?

  • Sarah

Normally it's MRI before biopsy so seems a bit odd biopsy first.

MRI results should be within a couple of weeks.

PSA not particularly high. Gleeson shows aggressive but doesn't mean that much without MRI. I would chase it up.
