Hi to all,

just wanted to check if I was doing the right thing.

I first went to the doctors with issues in July 2021 with symptoms. Finally got to see a consultant in September 2022. And after having blood tests, a CT scan in December 2022 and told I had to have a biopsy in January 2023.

it was confirmed that I had prostrate cancer PSA level of 4.57, PIRADS of 4, Gleason scale of 7 (4+3) grade 2 cancer which was class as slow growing. After clinical decision they advised me that the best course of action was to have a radical prostatectomy, I’m 63.

although the hospital where I have been diagnosed at does not do the operation so they have transferred me to another trust hospital that does this robotically. I have seen a consultant here who advised that the waiting time for the operation is up to 6 months wait.

I asked who would be checking me between then and now and no one has given me an assurance I have asked the doctors or in turn did not know who has written to the consultant.

So although I had my diagnosis confirmed in January it was not untill March that I saw the consultant. So it will be up to 8 months before potential surgery.

who should be looking after me with blood tests or any other scans ? I have read so many different articles in papers that they are looking at how they diagnose and possibly treat Prostrate cancer.

My last PSA test was in January at my original hospital and I have had no tests at the new hospital only booked in for surgery

Any advice or information would be great.

  • A friend of mine had Gleason 7 slow growing, there was a 10 months wait between diagnosis and operation, which he had 9 month's ago, he was not seen between them either, but he's doing ok now.

  • Hi CM

Your stats are low so the wait prob OK. Could be worth checking a couple of things though , ie, size of tumour in mm and location within the gland, is it near the gland edge.

They must of had a good look at the Mri  and decided it looks ok but u should just check it
