Sorry to say I have buried my head in the sand last few weeks trying not to think about it too much ...Suddenly its here. tomorrow

C\n anyone walk me through it.. How long does the whole thing last?  I have just used a micro anema thing as it says one day before.. that was an unpleasant first .. litrally 5 mins ago

I believe another one before I go and take one with me .. but not use until someone tells me to. is that right?

Then what and like I say.. could do to know on average how long it lasts.. got work later :)

Any help appreciated as always...

  • Hello Whatsisname, I have just asked my husband and he kept his pants on, just had to pull them down a bit to expose the tattoos.
Re the enema not working, he was told that it might not always have a bowel movement as a result -  especially if he had already opened his bowels that morning but the enema is also very important in eliminating gas/ wind. His sessions were mostly midday.  He didn’t have an enema the night before the planning - was not required. What he did have was a major wobble and suddenly announced that he was not going to go through with any more treatment at all.  This resulted in a big row between us because to do that would have denied him any chance of cure.

you don’t mention a wife/ partner. I can understand all this anxiety but we wives struggle with it too. I have always said this is a couples disease. My husband didn’t want to talk about it all for a long time. I have never felt so lonely in all my life. He was frightened…but so was I!

let us know how tomorrow goes!

  • how strange.. thats how i was feeling this afternoon that i didnt want to go tomorrow.. but my brain and my wife both gave me a kicking :) its nearly 4 hrs and nothing... I have some dulcolax here.. i know for a fact that works as have been constipated in past...  i dont know wether to take a couple,,. usually works next day... I am so worried that nothing happens tonight OR in the morning and the session gets postponed... from not wanting to go to worrying it wont happen :(

  • Just explained your predicament to my husband. He says he was told not to worry if there was no response to the enema - the important thing was to get rid of any gas also.  He didn’t have to have an enema the night before the planning. Sorry, I can’t advise you about taking dulcolax but I would suggest having plenty of fluids and , perhaps, some All Bran ( or something similar?) for your supper. Then, go to bed and try not to worry. The hospital staff will have seen it all before and will know how to deal with this.

I guess, being real facetious here, but, similarly, trying to help you along, you can say you’ve ‘got a bum deal’?

    good luck

  • haha yeah seems that way.. just nothing seems to run smooth.. oh hum :)  thanks for the responses :)

  • Hi, I go for my scan on Thursday, I’m also booked in for 23 radiotherapy sessions starting 1st June the last one is scheduled for 3rd July. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer 2 years ago, Gleason 7(4+3), I had a robotic radical prostectomy in Sept 2021, my PSA was undetectable after surgery but it has slowly gone up , so I’m on Zoladex hormone injections, got 3 more to go, and I’m about to get radiotherapy. I’ve been taking some form of laxative prior to my scan also I was told to be well hydrated, so it looks like we’re in a similar situation, I’ve been going to the gym I find this helps me not only physically but mentally also, good luck to you and let me know how you get on,

    regards, Pete

  • I haven't got my dates yet. I will get them tomorrow.. my wifes waiting to find out then she can take a week off work to come with me for the first week then do rest on my own..  because mine is stage 3 i didn't get any options.. radiotherapy only so fingers crossed..

Thanks and good luck with your as well :)

PS Now 5 hrs and no movement from the enema.. aargh probably wake up middle of night wanting to go..

  • Not had any problems emptying my bowels, I was given a powder that you mix with water, take it at night and it is meant to soften the stool, I’m still a bit confused with the water situation prior to the scan, think I’ll call them tomorrow,

  • Well I had my RT planning this afternoon... what a load of stress for nothing haha.. so simple and easy... i didn't need to drink lots of water.. he looked at me like i was stupid and said no.. juts go empty your bowls for me..

The problem I had last night with the enema not working.. turns out its not to empty your bowls.. just the passage.. had i realised that i wouldn't have panicked

anyway all went well.. got my start date.. 20 sessions :)

Thanks once again for all your efforts with replies... I hope to be able to do the same soon and offer my advice to others if I can...

  • Glad it went well! Your relief is palpableSlight smile

  • My scan tomorrow, I’ve drank that much water I think I’m going to burst Joy glad it all went well x
