Me again. I'm just asking about people's experiences. How long after a catheter has been fitted should my other half be experiencing pain/uncomfortable? And does everybody use the retaining strap all the time or use something else? OH is having difficulty securing the catheter in a comfortable position.
Thanks
Jane
Hi Jane. I’m 4 days into catheter wearing. (I was almost in tears after day 2! It was so uncomfortable and alien) I’m finding KY jelly applied to exit of penis keeps the catheter able to move. Also baggy boxers and trousers (not easy if pads are also needed). Thigh retention strap is essential for me. I position it so the Y shape of the catheter is retained, this helps with accidental pulling. I also keep the thigh strap on at night. I’ve found things so much better today. Hope this is helpful. Good luck! Daniel
Hi
I had a catheter for a few months. I used this strap which I recommend. (No longer on Amazon but you should find an alternative source,
Consider using a flip/top (valve on catheter rather than a bag) which can be used to maintain bladder function. If you just let urine drain continuously your bladder will lose condition and if and when the catheter comes out it will be more difficult to void your bladder as the muscles will lose function.
