Hi - can anyone give me any insight to the Prostap injections 3 monthly please?
If you are on them for life are the side effects likely to be constantly there?
As you are ready for your next injection, is there a chance the side effects could lessen?
I know everyone reacts differently but just trying to find out as much as we can
Many thanks
Hi Julie
I was on 3 monthly Prostap for 2 years up to Dec 21, so can't say whether the side effects will stay over the long term. However, my side effects were with me for the full 2 years. I sort of got used to them, but I don't feel they eased off.
As an aside , they are still with me now - admittedly no where near as bad.
Regards
Stuart
Hi Julie
Usually Bicalutamide is only for a few weeks, then Prostap. Both will make him tired, so as long as his next Prostap doesn't clash ( and perhaps the hospital will have a way round it), then go on holiday!

yeah i did bicaltumide for a month too
i'm on daily 1000mg abiraterone so its a double hormone treatment its working quite well .
but the hot sweats/fatigue/weight gain/growing boobs loss of libido are hard to take !
but the alternative aint gd either !!
Hi Julie
Hope your husband (and you) are doing okay. Sadly its a journey for the two of you!
Like other responders I had bicalutimde for a month and then went straight to Prostat (monthly for a couple of months and now 3-monthly). I was diagnosed back in August and I understand that 6-months of this prior to RT is the standard procedure.
Like other's I am on the meds for two years post RT.
Side effects are pants! - Night Sweats/ Hot Flushes / low labido / muscle aches. But I think you will find out that not only does everyone have slightly different side effects but the solutions will be different. the big thing I am trying to resolve is the night sweats as they impact my sleep so much. So far I have tried, Cod Liver Oil tablets, Evening Primrose tablets and Acupuncture - no change. Now onto trying Sage tablets and Matcha - only a week in so no change yet.
information and knowledge is really helpful so hope thats of use.
Andy
Hi all thanks so much for your replies. It really does help to get an insight to the treatment and it's side effects. My Uncle is one week in on Prostrap and is experiencing some sweats but nothing else so far, although we know it is early days yet. Will find out more about the future treatment plan once he meets with the oncologist x
I have been on Prostap 3 since Nov 2020. It has brought my psa down dramatically from 1173 to hardly any so it has done some good in that way. My testosterone is nil, libido gone, got hot sweats (get used to it but still annoying) but I think the worst is the emotional side effects. I have moments when I cry, feel emasculated and worthless. It is so important that someone is there to help people get through this help them with it. So be prepared.
